Hi,

My partner let her son use her email account to make an xbox account. Now he has grown up we want to have him use his own email. I saw you can add a email and change the primary however it states this

I do not want to lose her email just change it to his new email and stop hers from being linked to xbox account but this says if I remove it from xbox the email account it will be deleted.

Or is this the way to do it?

You can change the Microsoft account that's associated with your Xbox LIVE gamertag. Here's how:

Sign in using your Xbox LIVE gamertag.

Go to Settings and select Account.

Scroll right to Your Information and select Account Security.

Select Microsoft account (Your Microsoft account is your Windows Live ID.)

Do one of the following:

If you already have another Microsoft account, select Yes.

If you don't have another Microsoft account, go to accounts.live.com and click Sign up. After you have another Microsoft account set up, select Yes and
continue with the next step.

Enter the password for the Microsoft account that is currently associated with your gamertag and select Sign in.

Enter the email address and the password for the new Microsoft account that you want to associate with your gamertag, and then select Sign in.

Select Yes, change to change the Microsoft account associated with your Xbox LIVE account.

Select Update Contact Information to update your contact information or Done to finish.

Does it mean I do all this on the xbox or with computer?

If that is the way to do it what happens to the old email ( is it deleted or am I still able to use it as a email? )

Accounts cannot be transferred. You can only change the email address on the account. So if you want to keep everything on your old xbox account it would be best to change the email address on that account.

When I use the link to billing, it sends a code to an old email address. I changed it in my account on the 16th. I've actually had this current email for two years, but I've been too lazy to change it until recently. When I select the link for 'not using
this email address' it takes me to the account page and reflects the changes I made on the 16th. I hit 'save' and tried again, but it's still sending the email to my old address.

Hi there,

you can't merge accounts itself or fully move the Xbox Live Account to a different Microsoft Account, but something that could work for you is changing the primary email address for the Microsoft Account.

My assumption what steps might be required are:

- Change the primary email on the New Unused Xbox Account account to something else (you might need a new MS account/email for that) so that the Wanted email address is no longer attached to a Microsoft Account.

- Change the primary email on the Old Xbox account to the new wanted email address, so that that Wanted email address can be used to sign in to the Xbox main account.

As you mentioned that you suspect that this gamertag is linked to one of your old email accounts. I will suggest login to your old email account and change the email address of that one with your new email address as described here https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/help/12407/microsoft-account-change-email-phone-number

Or you can delete or change your gamertag by accessing your old email account first.
