How to buy a gold membership from the child's account balance? Parent approval ??

If you go to Microsoftstore.com and sign in with his account after changing in the family settings to allow him to make the purchase you can purchase a digital code for the xbox live subscription and while going through the checkout it will give you the
option of using the Microsoft account currency for the purchase.

I don't believe you can buy a subscription yet from the Xbox console using the currency from the account.

If his account is setup as a child account under your Parent account.

Sign into your account on the Xbox One console.

- Then go to Settings > Family > Select his Gamer tag > Privacy and Online Safety > Xbox Live Privacy > View Details and Customize > Buy and Download > Ask a Parent - change to Off

Then sign into his account

- Then go to Settings > Account > Subscriptions > See if it will let you buy a subscription with the currency on the account

If that fails, you can try and sign into his account online at the Microsoft Store and try and buy a subscription there.

But I don't think child accounts are allowed to make purchases online.

There are two types of cards that you can buy, currency for the account to buy games and game content. The other card type is a subscription card/code but you usually have to use a credit card to make that purchase.

Just for clarification, is this a child account?

Is there issues when attempting to buy a Xbox live gold subscription?

If this is a " Parent and Child account" then the child account would attempt to buy it then would need permission from the adult account.

If the child has no safety lock on purchases then the account may purchase the Xbox live gold with no issue.

The Xbox live gold does not have to be bought as a gift.

If the parent account has gold set it as the "Home console" so the gold may be shared to other users on the console, if this is a Xbox one.

To purchase an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate (includes gold) or Live Gold subscription, it is necessary to have a payment method linked to the account.

However, as you're going to purchase this for your child. Try adding the payment method in the parent account. Microsoft account | payment options.

Once added, make sure that ask to buy is enabled for the child account and try making the purchase.

Now the parent account should receive a notification and you can approve the purchase.

This issue is that you can't promote the child account without approval from the parent account.
