How silent is the XB1 ment to be?

I suffer from severe hearing loss, so I don't hear it at all.

It's true Unreal; if you've ever played with me long enough, eventually I'll talk about how I have to change my hearing aid batteries or how I have to use the Kinect to hear you because I can't hear very well through the headset, etc.

Back on topic though, you shouldn't worry about much sound coming from your Xbox One unless you hear a grinding sound coming from your disc tray - only then should you worry.

 

Just had a chat with the Xbox support chat, told them I can hear slight whirring of the fan when in close range is this normal as ive heard the console is said to be dead silent. they told me I should either return to shop or do an advanced replacement?

I wasn't that worried before it just made me think its not as quiet as ive read, now ive been told this.. is this an over reaction or are they right it should be dead silent even from really close range?

I think it's an over reaction. It's a fan. Fans make noise over time as their bearings break in.

I really wouldn't worry about it unless the sound from the fan is unbearably loud.

 

if im sat on my chair about 5 feet away can't hear anything, its when I get close I can hear a faint whirring fan noise. just as I've heard its ment to be silent its made me check.

I sit about 4/5 feet away from mine and I don't hear it. At least I've never sat here and though "I can noticeably hear my Xbox over everything else right now".

Sitting 1ft away with your ear pointed is obviously trying to hard, unless you play games like that, in which case you are a minority and I suggest you try to rearrange your setup.

 

Lol.. no my gaming setup isn't like that. But as Ive read and heard the xbox one is ment to be dead silent I gave it a good listen.. head about a foot away and I can hear the fan's whirring away, spinning around I gather.

Just not sure if this IS a normal sound as like mentioned its a fan it has to spin, but why did MS support say straight away in needs to be replaced?

 

You shouldn't be surprised about hearing the fans but a crackle could be a dic drive issue. I say use your best judgement with this.

 

If the most you can hear is a faint whirring noise when up close I wouldn't worry about it. Fans are quiet, but not so quiet they generate zero noise whatsoever.

Mine makes a little noise, but nothing I am concerned about. My PC is louder.

 

I can only just hear mine when there is absolute silence in the room. when I turn on my 360 that's a whole different story and I once thought that was fairly quiet in its day.

 

Seriously ... its not 100% dead quiet ... its quiet but its still going to make noise. Your head is 1 foot away from the console , of course your going to hear something. Hard drives make a fair bit of noise as they read and right , there is a huge *** fan
inside about 5 inches in diameter ... thats going to make a slight noise as it spins. As fans go I am mighty impressed at how quiet that fan is considering its size.

Reports of the console being 100% dead quiet are wildly exaggerated ... it doesnt make much noise but it still makes enough that you can hear it within a few feet of the console.

I would be more worried if I could not hear anything as I would always have to wonder if the fans were still spinning.

As consoles go , it does a good job at keeping the noise level down .. in fact its like white noise after a while and I hardly ever notice it. Its the fan in the psu that bugs the hell out of me when the console is in sleep mode.

Why support would tell you to get the console replaced I have no idea. If you told them the same as you told us and your head was 1 foot away and could only hear a slight whir im guessing they are just covering their butts. Personally I think I would have
burst out laughing at you asking that on the phone lol ... no offence meant

Seriously , if you cant hear it once you move more than a few feet away then your console is fine.

It's so much easier to catch a joke like that when someone actually says it rather than types it. Ah, oh well...

 

Mine is super silent, i can only hear it if i put my ears on it. I would go back to the retailer and switch it out or send it back to microsoft.
