How powerful is the XB1?
MANY ppl have gone on record saying that this gen of consoles is more like PCs than ever before
They're not referring to the system architecture.
I'm not on any specific timetable.
I've not discussed specs. At this point one only need look at the block diagrams from Hot Chips. There are several things on the APU that don't exist on a PC block diagram.
They're not there for window dressing.
The devs aren't sure how to use the ESRAM cache yet either (despite having had a similar facility
on the 360), but that doesn't change the fact that it's there.
Again, they're not referring to the system architecture.
A PC is not defined solely by its CPU ISA.
ISA is not unknown to people who are discussing the technical details of a system.

If you don't understand the block diagrams that came out of Hot Chips, or that are found in decent motherboard manuals or on Intel's own website, that's fine. That ignorance, however, does not grant you the right to proclaim that someone who does understand
them is flatly "wrong".

The "tons" of other people saying Xbox One is like a PC are not, in general, referring to the system architecture. They're remarking on how the usage model of consoles has become PC-like - OS updates, game patches, and firmware updates for peripherals. Those
referring to off-the-shelf internal components like the HDD or the cooling fan or even the memory chips used are again simply noting that this is something they recognize from PCs. It's fantastic that people understand the concepts of storage and memory, but
these things do not define system architecture.

:)

3. How powerful is the XBOne ? Or next gen ?

Really what they have done is taken the PC concept, called it a console,
but removed all the advantages of being a PC and having none of the advantages of traditional consoles.... and on top of that made it a low-end gaming PC. It's the worse of both worlds, heck you be 100 times better off just hooking
up your PC to your freaking TV, DONE, new game console.

It's not a measuring contest....it might be for Ice but I'd like you to stop including me in everything negative about this.

He addressed me...not the other way around. He always....ALWAYS has to correct ppl when regarding tech specs. Half the stuff he says is manipulated wrong.

All I did was enter in a conversation, post my opinion and a little fact.....and he, like I thought....proceeded to "correct" me.

It's annoying b/c he's not wholey right.

Like in his last reply....I tried to make it sound as easy to understand as possible....but he has to pick it apart to "show" that he knows about tech.

Knowing half the ppl who read it are just going to go "yeah...sounds complicated so, sure....you're right".

^^ honestly its nothing more than a measuring contest. You, by your own admission only troll here to correct false info. Now you and Ice are duking it out for the right to say who is right. Like I said before Xbox One is powerful enough to support 4K. #nuffsaid

I never said that.

And your post is the constant reminder of why I do stick around. I said I post here to make sure ppl don't lie. Like ppl like Az that say the X1 is selling more in the UK when report after report is saying otherwise.

But you along with others manipulate things. I never said I troll...you just get all upset b/c I don't let the B.S. run rampant on this forum which you would just let go.

You're wanting to discredit me....whatever credit I had to begin with...seems you guys really are after me....I must be hitting the truth or something b/c I'm a nobody. Yet every time I post, unless it's positive about the X1, it's "trolling this" and "SDF
that".

You're trolling right now...and the only person who might know it is you since many don't keep up with the daily posting that goes on here, but at the very least I want you to know 24.....it's quite pathetic.

I want you to know, 24, that by your last post...by your own admission....you don't care if ppl lie.

As long as the X1 is in good light. I really have to say....the PS community has some childish ppl, but I've never seen a bunch of liars and ppl who let it go all in one place before.

Watch...Endless will show up aiding you.....yet, he was no where to be found when I made the thread about MS impressing me with their E3 presentation. You guys just happen to forget or miss that....but I'm sure theres some sort of excuse for it.

@ ICN3D

I am truly sorry if I came across as picking you out. I wasn't.

I can only apologize to you, and state I know nothing. I have read all of both of your posts, and try to gather what I can, both good and bad.

I have categorically stated that I have no particular allegiance to either brand, or platform... I picked X1 because it suits me. I know PS4 is more powerful, and PC is more so again.

I'm just going to enjoy my choice, let other people enjoy their choice, and... Well... That's it.

I do recall you starting a positive X1 thread, and also that people did comment that they were taken aback by it, but in a good way.

Obviously what we should all take away from this, is picking and pointing and comparing serves no positive purpose in this space. Whether your intentions are noble or not, comparisons are discouraged here for these very clearly apparent reasons, and more.

Take from this what you will.

I'm gonna repost this, just because... But I'm adding one to the mix.

How powerful is the XB1?

As powerful as Captain Kirk, but not as powerful as Chuck Norris... (Although neither are that powerful next to the all conquering James Bond)

I'm out.

No harm no foul xeno....I was merely making a post on the topic...but I knew it was going to get picked apart and then start a whole thing b//c it wasn't all positive X1 stuff.

In the end, my original post wasn't grandly positive about either console but then again wasn't negative either. Many ppl, like me, are completely happy with the way grahpics turn out on either of their console of choice.

I was merely stating a concern some have...I don't have that concern as much as others...but I do wonder about it.

12. When the Xbox 360 came out, did it present similar difficulties for developers in terms of frame rate and resolution?

How powerful is the XB1?

^ No and yes, 360 was the easiest of the consoles to develop for. So practically all multi-platform games used 360 as the lead platform. Also, note all consoles present difficulties in terms of resolution / framerate as games are made on Developer PC's
(very high end) and have to be optimised much lower for consoles, and even the PC market. Know that 1080p does not mean better graphics, just full HD native resolution. The sheer number of factors that determine how well a game looks is actually the reason
why gamers have to simplify and use resolution in these 'console war' arguments.

14. Alright you two. You know who you are!

When it comes to Tech terms. I'm neither PC, nor Console savvy, So posting links and having me understand them is a waste. However in laymen terms. The X1 is more of a PC, than a lot of PC's are.

1) Does it rely on Direct X like my old K 6-2/Monster Fusion 3DFX game machine did waaay back in 1998?

Rant: Why MS can't I run my Star Wars: Rouge Squadron on my latest PC? Man I miss windows 98!

2) Does it run apps?

3) Can you use it to surf the web via IE?

If you answered YES to these questions. Then for all practical purposes, including gaming. Then the X1, and the PS4 are TV stand PC's cloaked in console clothing.

Didn't want to interject in that argument but IceStorm is right, there is no debate this isn't a faith based argument, use even the most basic form of evidence and you'll arrive at the truth. In the simplest possible terms, consoles are closed systems and
PC's are open systems. Tablets or Phones which you'll agree are not PCs run DirectX, Apps, and Surf the web.

x86 chips are not exclusive to personal computers either. If I were to say beacuse the Xbox uses RAM it must be a PC, we'd all agree that was a ridiculous assertion... well this is the same.
