How on earth can you expect people to plug their satellite boxes in to the Xbox One when you ...

I've had my Sky HD box plugged in for the last 2 months and haven't been able to get surround sound at all. During this time i've gone through about 5 different optical cables, 10 HDMI cables and tried every single setting, mixed with every other setting
possible. It just doesn't work. I've even had people suggest that I should everything to output in stereo, why would I do that? (and anyway, I tried it and guess what? It outputs in stereo).

I've searched these forums, i've searched the internet and no one has the answer. There are a lot of unhappy people out there who have the same issue.

I am starting to wonder if Microsoft have the answer because for a company to go on for so long about how this console is the "all-in-one" entertainment system, for something so simple as surround sound while watching TV through your Xbox One not to work
    is baffling.

I'm not going to make some over the top comment like "i'm going to sell my Xbox One and buy a PS4" because i'm not, but I do think it's really really lame that people have had this problem for a while now and it's still not sorted.

    :)

This is Impressive indeed but i play games not tv rubbish.

"why not eliminate the need for two boxes just to watch tv and play games, when you can use just one?"

Ok, and what do you do if you use direct tv? You can't just plug in your satellite connection to your xbox and bypass the box for sateliate tv, so you'll still have 2 boxes. Plus there are more than enough channels on satellite tv that you wouldn't need
to watch through xbox. You tube and hulu you can get on PC, and in some cases I think Smart TVs. And yes, the flat screen in my room is strictly to play games on through my xbox, and yet it wasn't close to $500.

  3. Still only getting stereo even with straight HDMI.

This should answer you from Xbox One support website :

Digital surround with TV on Xbox One

Support for digital surround sound from your cable or satellite box is currently available as a beta. By default, only stereo sound will be received.

Follow these steps to enable digital surround sound:

1.From Home, say “Xbox, go to Settings” or select the Settings tile from My games & apps.

    2.Select TV & OneGuide.

    3.Select Troubleshooting.

4.Select the Surround Sound (BETA) option.

Note Your Xbox One can produce digital surround sound for games and Blu-ray or DVD movies. Only the digital audio pass-through from your cable or satellite box is in beta.
