How mutch vibrations during powered on is ok for the hdd?

Hello!

I have always heard that hdd cant take mutch vibration while it’s turned on.

Tried to find out what type of hdd it’s inside xbox one x, seems like it’s a seagate mobile 2.5"
Dosnt that means it’s a more vibration resistent disc since it’s ment for laptops?

Found this on the seagate page about operation vibrations: 5–200 Hz: 2.0 Gs
201–500 Hz: 1.0 Gs but i dont understand what it means.

My conserns is that we live in a second floor house and the floors is a bit soft (poor old made building), so when one walk by little hard you can feel the vibration to the floor and little in the desk. And i have a kid that also
like to jump at the floor sometimes in the room begind my console.

Would like to hear what your thoughts is and if someone can explane what this 1-2gs means

Yes i havent heard any wierd sounds from it. Yes when i think about laptops they use to get some handling while they are on running on battery

I'm in a similar situation, my Xbox One X is sitting on it's own cabinent thing in my room on the second story, I don't have anyone jumping around though. I haven't noticed any issues.

The reason I have my console on It's own cabinent is that I have a steering wheel for my racing games, and I dont' want my console exposed to the vibrations of my steering wheel, I also sometimes move the table the sterring wheel is on when I'm using it.

I tend to be more worried about discs dislodging than issues with the HDD.

Modern 2.5'' hard drives have a sensor that quickly puts the read/write heads into a safe park position, if they detect an excessive force.

The "g" mentioned, is the standard Earth gravity acceleration, which is 9.81 m/s². So the specifications say:

If you shake the hard drive between 5 and 200 times per second, it can withstand accelerations about the magnitude of twice the Earths gravity.

If you start to shake it 201 to 500 times per second, you can "only" use the amount of acceleration that is equal to the Earth's gravity.

So unless your walking by or the kid jumping causes the console to significantly lift off the surface it's standing on and falling back down, there is nothing you need to worry about.

Hi there,

any 'standard' hdd is sensitive to vibration or movement, usually this means movement like when a laptop is move to a different location, which is different like a vibrating floor due to someone walking by (or jumping near by)

One thing you could do is to get some rubber 'feet' or 'stands and place them onder the console or the cabinet the console is placed on to limit hard vibrations.

Also listen to the sound when there is vibration you worry about near the console, if the hard drive makes a different noise compared to normal then there could be issues, if it sounds normal, I wouldn't worry about it a lot.
