Running a power cycle that restarts your Xbox will only reset the software, usually clearing out any glitches that were affecting game play. Shutting the system down is also a good idea at the end of any gaming session even if the system is running error free, as it saves power and allows the console to rest. Just make sure to not over do it when it's not necessary.

Working as I work for a water utility and if my schedule falls on a holiday then I have no choice. The plus side is that I am getting paid $1000 for two days of work. Due to how they do our holiday pay so I am not complaining.
