How many Xbox Live subscriptions do I need?

I have 3 Xbox One consoles in my household. Mine and one each for two of my boys. How many active subscriptions do I need to get everyone online and able to play multiplayer at the same time? Thanks in advance.

You can't even use the BBC iplayer for free without an xbox live subscription.

This is one of many Microsofts negatives that I don't like.

They automatically believe your going to get xbox live for online gaming so everything else is a bonus.

If your not interested in getting xbox live then your limited to what you can do really.

 

If you use all the three accounts in three different consoles you need to purchase gold memberships for all accounts in order to play online multiplayer games.

 

Actually youd really only need two gold memberships.

So you have console A, B, and C.

Have one of the accounts with gold set as the 'Home' console on xbox A. And then one of your kids can sign into THEIR account which does not have gold on console A.

On Console B You can Sign into YOUR account.

Console C will need a profile with its own gold membership.

You would need 2 gold subscriptions.

One on console A could share with the account on console B & console C would need their own gold subscription

How can the OP use only 2 gold subscriptions for 3 xbox consoles?!

@ M3tal Daz,i know how home & gold sharing works,that's why the op would only need 2 gold subs.

2 consoles & accounts could share gold & digital games using the home console feature.

The 3rd console & account would need their own separate gold sub & copy of digital games.

Perhaps you should better read the conditions of using the gold sharing/home xbox features.

Obviously you would need all 3 consoles connected to live in order to play online,that was not the question.

Actually, both Daft Badger and M3tal Daz3 have a point. What M3tal is trying to say is that what if player C wants to play on console A. Since player C does not have gold and the home xbox feature is only shared on his console, then he won't be able to play
online on console A since no gold has been shared there.

What Daft is trying to explain is that if Player A don't intend to allow Player B and C to play on his own console. That's where you will only need to gold accounts. I hope that's more clear to understand.

 

Defence just so you know that once you sign in an account to a console, and then it will be signed in again to another console, the profile from the 1st console will be signed out automatically.

So if you want to use 3 consoles contemporaneously in live with 3 accounts you need 3 memberships!

 

You don't have to be actively signed in to share the gold though. You do not need 3 memberships for all 3 accounts to be signed into 3 different consoles. Only 2.

Account A has gold and assigns console B as his Home console. Account A can then sign into console A and use gold while Account B signs into console B and uses the shared gold. Account C has gold and uses console C with their gold subscription.
