    How long does it take for a gamertag to release?


    I changed the gamertag of my second account and tried to change my gamertag to it on my main account but whenever I try change it it has a suffix (the # with numbers) it's been over 48 hours since I changed it and there is no one using the gamertag. Does anyone know what happening is it glitched or does it take a longer time to release the tag?

    I dont know if this changes anything but I had the same gamertag on the my second account since I created it can that be a reason it's been locked for so long because it's the original gamertag of the account?

    I've heard anywhere from 24 hours to 45 days. It is also still possible someone else could be using the tag and that would be why it still shows the suffix.

    It's been a long time since I transferred anything but I had about 100Gb to switch over and it took 45 min. to an hour.

    Hi there again, It can take up to 48hrs. I've changed mine a couple of times and it has been pretty much instant. With the Xbox having problems yesterday this could be a factor of why it hasn't changed.

    You can try a hard reset that way when you start your Xbox up it should have to sync and maybe then it will take affect maybe.

    To perform a Hard Reset you Hold your power button on your Xbox for 8 to 10 seconds or until it turns off. Once the Xbox is off unplug your power pack from the Xbox so it has no power running into it. Leave the power pack unplugged for 5 to 10 minutes and
    then plug it back in and start up your Xbox.

    When 48hrs has passed then you can try and contact Xbox directly to solve the problem.

    I know it can be frustrating after paying for the GT change and it hasn't changed over.
