How is this fair?

The fact is trolls know that if they can goad you into replying to them they can report you for harassment. In this case it looks like you went for the bait and, sadly, you got the punishment he or she wanted you to get. It sucks, but that's the way the
system works. When you are being harassed or bullied or whatever, the best response is simply to block and report and move on. You can't change a troll from being a troll, but you can exclude them from your life. I sympathise with your situation. Maybe it
isn't fair. But use it - next time just block and report.

That's not answering his question though. The answer is no, it's not fair. I understand that the enforcement tools available aren't always the best, I can also understand how human error can come into play, and how fault is not objective most cases. But
this seems black and white, if there were an investigation into the messages sent (screen shots etc), the other guys was clearly in the wrong. If all he said was, "leave me alone", that's not a bullying or a trolling statement, it's not even an aggressive
statement. So why the ban in the first place, especially to the party who wasn't the aggressor. That's like going to jail for not fighting some one who wanted to fight you, but they do no jail time for actually throwing punches that you dodged lol. Then the
other guy is still able to message him to tease him about what he did? What's the process when someone reports someone? Do they really just say ok and ban a person without looking into it? I just don't see how it makes sense for him to be banned for 24 hours
and the other guys get nothing. I want to understand the why behind what they do, also understand why this process hasn't gotten better.

I can deal with the ban I'm just annoyed at the fact that he won't get banned and it's most likely because he spelled out everything wrong

My recommendation for a situation like this, would be not to engage with a toxic players, and choose to mute and report instead. As soon as you yourself engage, no matter how unfair it seems, you yourself will take the chance of breaching the code of conduct,
if not choosing your action and words wisely.

And i know it seems like people just get away with it, but the reinforcement team is working really hard to handle all the reports an keep everybody's gaming experience as enjoyable as possible. But it takes time to review a case proper.
