How is my system using so much data.

I think something is seriously wrong with my system. I have both a PS4 and Xbox one, and I primarily play the PS4, but a few days ago, I got a call saying I went over my 300GB Internet data limit. I was trying to check and see what was happening, and when
I went to check my Xbox one Data usage I noticed something very strange. It said I had used 218 GB of data in one day, which is weird because I only had it on for maybe 30-1hr to download the new Destiy update. I don't stream or anything, and on I average
I may play on it for like 6-8 hrs in a week. I have the system alread set to energy-saver mode. I've checked other settings to make sure that when the system is off, it's off. Why is my system doing this?

    :)

Why is my xbox using much data?

Plus I'm guessing this is wrong but for two of the months
I used 700tb and 8000tb according to the xbox.

If that's not a typo, I would say your console just flew over the cuckoo's nest.

It all depends on how much you use the console, if you download all of your games, and play online every night then 10Tb a year sounds like it could be right.

The Xbox will check, as soon as it gets online, if the system software or other games need updates. So even during your gameplay the Xbox will download necessary game updates or system updates in the background.

If you are on the Xbox Preview Program, the console will also download large system updates more often than normal consoles.

Also, if you got the free Games with Gold games, these games will also download in the background, as soon as the console has connected to the internet.

If you set your console to energy saving mode (orange LED on the power adapter), the console will try to "catch up" on the missed updates during the time it was offline.

So depending on how many games you have on your system, it can download a lot during a day.

My console varies between 200 and 300 GB per month, and I have it on "instant on" mode, so it can download updates anytime.

so in other words if i wanna keep my Xbox one and not suck up the data, i either have to get unlimited data, or uninstall practically games i don't play so it don't grab those updates? that's seems crazy cuz it dont even seem like an update should occur
unless you try to play that game.

That would really defeat the purpose of instant on. Users don't have to wait on updates to play their games since they will download while the system is in standby.

Well, the Xbox One was originally
designed to be an "always on(line)" console, what caused a lot of fan backlash
    .

The previous Xbox consoles were always slightly ahead of their time regarding the use of technology: The original Xbox featuring a broadband ethernet network connection when most people still used dial up internet.

The Xbox 360 featuring High Definition graphics when most people still had standard definition TVs.

And the Xbox One now offering to keep your games and system "up to date" automagically when the console isn't used.

On the Xbox 360, system and game updates were done in a matter of minutes. The System required a ~100MB download. Game updates were done in several seconds.

Game- and Systemupdates on the One now clock in at several Gigabytes. Which (on my 16Mbit DSL line) takes often more than half an hour or more.

So Microsoft decided, it's more convenient for most users (that usually have unlimited traffic), that the console should always try to keep the games and system up to date automagically, so the user can simply turn on the console and jump right into the
game without having to wait for hour long updates.

I know a lot of people are stuck with slow and/or limited Internet. And it's the same with people having dial up on the Xbox and SD-TVs on the Xbox 360.

Microsoft guesstimates, that during the lifetime of the Xbox One, most people will have a steady, unlimited Internet connection, and can enjoy the "background" work the console does to keep your games and system up to date.

In your particular case, where you have only limited internet traffic, I'd really recommend you work around the Xbox's automatism and deny the console to update games you don't play by deleting them.

That way, the console will only pull the latest update, if you choose to reinstall and play the game, instead of downloading multiple updates that you don't use, since you're not playing the game regularly.

For example, Killer Instinct gets a lot of updates because of the several seasons and interim fixes. If you don't play that game, uninstall it, and if you decide you wish to play again, install the game with the latest update and play it.

That's the only advice I can give you.

Other than that, you could try to make a suggestion at
    http://feedback.xbox.com
that you wish to turn off updates for certain games, unless you want to play them again.
