How I would love to play those older games.

Being my first post I don't intend for it to be anywhere near perfect but rather get word out of a concept that I have been thinking about for a long time.

When the Xbox 360 came out I was out of my mind with joy. Gears of War, Halo, the thought of a new Fable, the possibilities to me were simply endless.

For a while Microsoft had a list of original Xbox games that were playable on Xbox 360 and planned on updating it periodically with more games.

"Much like this years E3 promise." I loved the thought of being able to play these games and all the while being able to switch to a newer 360 game simply by swapping a disc. Well shortly into the life of Xbox 360, HD DVD's were a thing. Though sort of a short
ended concept the idea of buying the disk drive and that was all that was needed to play the disks appealed to me.

    So my proposition is this.

Everywhere you look you can find a used Xbox to play all those old games. What is stopping the idea of another Add on much like the HD DVD player that was specifically used to play Original Xbox games. To my understanding the amount of money needed to make
such a thing is minute compared to what we now have available. No online play, no crazy antics, simply Add on drive that could be used as the hardware to run the games. It could have it's own built in hard drive with more than enough space to hold the saves
for the games and could have a separate power cable to run the device or dongle that would hook to the power brick of the current Xbox One and run off that.

This concept is no where near impossible and from a business stand point wouldn't be expensive at all to do and would ensure that community wasn't just keeping Xbox alive but remember it as well.

    Thank you for reading.

    :)

Lego Lord of the Rings for xbox one

All the old 360 LotR games need to come forward. I would love to play the Lego game, but also Conquest, Battle for Middle-earth II, and War in the North. I am not sure why none of those have been brought forward, but my dad and I used to love to play
    them.

Hi there and welcome to the forums!

There's more to consider from a business standpoint then pure cost, would the masses even want this? Are you going to spend X amount of money developing something that no one wants or are you even going to recover costs?

It's not impossible because hardly anything in this world is, so if you want to see at the very minimum if the community supports this, I would post here:

  5. Just stack the old and new consoles and give it a cool new skin and a unique name. Everyone will be jealous.

  6. USB 3.0 OX optical drive is all I would think would be needed as both the OX and X1 are X86. Or so I heard!

But all thats really needed is allowing the software to read the Codex from an Original Xbox game disc, while the game itself runs via Digital DL on the HDD.

It may even a bit complicated, but if they put their minds to it I am sure it can be done and with little cost. For regardless of cost. Can't never could do anything.

And we all know people will buy most anything including Indi titals. So its hard to see anything negative about the concept. Unless devs wanted nits and pieces of the pie. Then perhaps it wouldn't be economically viable.

Thank you all for your feed back as well as suggestions. This is something that has been on my mind for a long time and hopefully I can find people who can see the potential in such a concept, especially since it is merely an add on and wouldn't affect anyone
negatively, but could potentially bring back a great age in gaming.

What 'Non-Xbox' games would you want on the platform?

I would love the older Metroid, Mario, and Zelda franchises. I don't think much explanation is needed, and I want those games to have achievements :)
