    How fluid is the transition?

Ok, I've been on the fence for a while for a "next-gen" (this gen?) console and with the new Kinect-less Xbox One available, I'm wondering how well it works without the peripheral.

Before the change I hear Xbox Home was a hassle to navigate with a controller. Has that changed very much? Also, is it easy to record and use other apps without voice commands?

I honestly don't want a Kinect, but if navigation with a controller hasn't changed very much I might get one anyways to ease the trouble.

    :)

No one cares? I care. If there is 2 copies of a game and one is more fluid I buy the more fluid copy.

I have the Kinect and choose not to use it other than Xbox On/Off

the transition is what you'd expect with a new console. it does less than the 360 and has less games and it doesn't even have voice messages.

X1 is a solid system with several issues. thankfully majority of the issues can and will be patched in time and for $399 its a fine time to pick one up although not as good as the Titanfall bundle when it was $449

Games with Gold also just started on X1 so feel free to join us in the "next gen" the water is fine.

I'm just mostly wondering how easy navigation is with the voice control off. I've heard how some things can take a split second for kinect to do but can take a much longer amount of time searching through menus with a controller.

  6. the Interface is clunky but once you finally find something you can pin it to the main page.

Initially I tried using the voice commands and while it sometimes worked i found it easier to just use the controller. This is also the case with all the people i know personally that own X1.

  7. I don't use the Kinect at all and I really hated navigating the dashboard at first, but now that I'm used to it, I can actually do things faster then the 360 as there aren't as many menus to go through.

I really thought I wouldn't survive without the guide menu that the 360 has, but don't need it anymore.

  9. It's really a matter of what you like. Myself i combine both voice and controller, as i find that to be the best and easiest for me.

I'm not the biggest fan of the kinect games, but honestly the voice use of the kinect on the One makes it worth it in my opinion.

Just calibrate it correctly and it works like a charm, at least for me, and i'm using English language without it being my native language, and so far i must say it works 9/10 times. Better than first expected.

Xbox 1 doesn't have voice messaging even between other Xbox 1 consoles, and you can't change the Dash background. But all this can change in a simple Update provided by M.

The console's navigation speed with the controller, has improved and apps and content load much more faster with the controller, that what it was like at launch.

Since Launch there have been numerous Updates. Battery Indicator, Recent Players List, Improved Friends List, Can choose to share your real full name if you want with who you want, External HDD support, and Dolby Support, and can use the headset you use
for your 360 on Xbox 1 but you'll need to get a chat adaptor from M.

I love the Xbox 1 controller, the Kinect too it can easily read QR codes, but Voice Commands are locked out for NZ and some other locales unless you temporarily change your locale to give it a try. Xbox 1's Dash brings up much more sophisticated Network
data such as your up and down speeds, ping, etc. And the Xbox 1 doesn't abruptly disconnect you from Xbox Live every time there's an Update, something which Xbox 360 is guilty of doing (you're in an Xbox Live Party, you start a game and the console abruptly
disconnects you from both Xbox Live and the Party).

Graphics and processing power are better. Halo doesn't come out til next year but Minecraft comes out in August. Xbox 1 also has MORE Xbox Live servers worldwide - 300,000, compared to only 15,000 Xbox Live servers worldwide for Xbox 360. Kinect Sports Rivals
    is fun.

If you're considering getting the Kinect-less console, I suggest you invest in the Console WITH Kinect. This is because if you decide you want to get Kinect down the road, you have to pay for Kinect which M called easily charge over US$100 and you could
have saved money by getting the Console-With-Kinect. Just to illustrate, Xbox 360's Kinect is still selling for RRP NZ$179 here. The Kinect-less console Xbox 1 is RRP NZ$599 and the Kinect-console is RRP NZ$749.

I can go almost a whole day without ever touching my controller.... as with all opinions, they are just that... but the ease of ..Watch TV... or get a notification while watching a movie and just saying READ MESSAGE instead of powering up the controller...
or the fact that ANYTHING within the XB1 UI is as cloas as saying XBOX GO TO (?)... sure the ones that say Kinect is slow bad etc.. chances are they never used it.. or gave it a proper shot

want an opinion... heres mine... the kinect-less XB1 will be a slightly dumbed down version as opposed to one with it.... I would say.. give it a try.. what is $100.00 over the course of 7+ years.. chances are you will spend that in batteries alone in the
    first year

I was dubious about Kinect , but wouldnt want an X1 without it now. Voice controls work almost flawlessly for me and using the UI with voice is effortless and much quicker than using the controller. Good advice above from Smileskybird about going for the
    Kinect version.

I think once you set up your dash with all your frequently used games and apps you should be good to go without Kinect. However I like having the voice commands for when I get lazy and my controllers is out of reach haha. The smartglass app comes in handy
    for those moments too.

I have the Kinect set up, and until the last patch was using it to just sign in, "record that" and get rid of the party snapped window that didn't want to close via controller commands. Since the June update I set my profile to the default via "instant sign
    in"... Simply for convenience sake.

I have nothing against the Kinect, but I don't pass through tv (don't have cable/pay tv), and as my game time has reduced due to being a "responsible" dad/husband... I only usually get to play late at night, and talking to the Xbox just isn't practical.

In saying this... I can't imagine my Xbox One without the Kinect... I'm sure over time I will become more comfortable with using it, or be given more reason to use it in some cool way I haven't considered yet. And, if not, I still feel it's worth having.

I haven't tried recording clips without it, so I can't help you there. But I can say that I feel all round it's much quicker to navigate manually than the 360, and I don't find it clunky at all... I've set it up and pinned what I want either on the home
screen, or one screen to the left of the home screen... Can't see what's hard about navigating between two screens. One screen to the right of home is everything else... That's it.

There are a few things I don't get, like some settings tucked away not where you'd expect... But overall I don't have any trouble navigating with my controller.

    Hope this helps.

If I had to guess... the Kinect down the road *NEW* from MS, will be about $249.99.. the PS version will be releasing at $199.99 (I remember seeing it somewhere)... my money well spent the first day I ordered pizza from Skype, paused the movie got the food
at the door and restarted it.. without even looking for the controller....

That is another aspect you will loose with a kinect-less XB1.. No skype, no record that, no simple audio commands.. try to look at the kinect for what it really is... a 2nd controller input device rather than something to lay games with
