how does light work on armor for leveling past level 20?

the game say's that i have to have light on my armor to level up. my helmet is light +8 and my armor is light +12. that gives me light +20. what does the number mean? am i only getting 20 exp points per kill? or 20% per kill? or 20 extra per kill? the game
does not explain how exactly this works.

Can somebody explain Destiny leveling system to me???

The leveling now works the same as other games' leveling, where you earn it through points from kills and junk. The light level system is now an average of all your equity armor and weapons as well as your ghost and class armor (like warlock bond). Please correct if wrong.

 

What do we want for DLC?

Leveling for killing people and completing quest not just leveling up things such as light armor, two handed, magic stuff, etc.. The game just seems to get absolutely slow when you hit level 45, I don't dare think what lies ahead at 55.

 

Someone please correct me if I am wrong(I have been drinking) Ok, I am a level 20/22 Light almost level 23 light. From what I gather I need to get armor with a higher light level in order to get to 23+ light level. I am just a hair til I hit level 23, but
my armor is all leveled up as much as it can go, so I NEED to find new armor with a higher light level. This is what I understand anyway.

Oh, and once past level 20 we do not earn XP anymore, the XP we would have earned goes towards earning Motes of Light(I think) which is used as currency to get high level items.

I hope this helps explain it some, as I am in the same boat as you. Kind of stuck until I can get new, better armor with higher light level.

you need items that contain +light

equip them and hold your cursor over your level and it will show you bar you have to fill to reach the next level. you just have to equip better light equipment for now on

you still get exp and level up so you can max out your skills

i don't see why bungie did it this way. it's confusing and makes leveling past 20 hard for no reason. why not just make it that we need a lot of XP to level up. i am at level 21 now. i can't seem to find light armor that raises me up any higher. and why
limit the vanguard and crucible marks to 100 a week? it feels like bungie doesn't want us to really level past 20 and get good gear. i missed out on vault of glass because i can't level up in time.

 

^^ I'm level Light 28 and I didn't find it that hard at all. I had to grind and farm for everything I got I didn't expect the game to just hand it to me on a silver platter. You didn't miss out on anything it will still be there by the time you get to 26
from my understanding it will be there forever, Plus your not missing out on much I run a full 6 man Light 27 and 28 team and we haven't beat it yet.

 

You need to start getting your Vanguard rep up right now so you can buy legendary armor and weapons with Vanguard points. Do your daily bounties and grind out rep until you hit level three, then get a class item from one of the factions and start grinding
that out until you hit level three. Max out your crucible and vanguard points ever week and you'll be set for gear.

Once you get your gear up to a high enough level you need to start doing the daily heroic story mission on the highest level. You'll get 2 ascendent materials every day that way and you can start getting your legendary gear to max level.

It's a slow boring grind that's no fun, but it's better than relying on sheer luck for your items.

 

okay. i have been doing bounties. some of them are take a long time because other players keep taking kills from me. like for example, getting 100 kills with dieing and get 2 kills at one time with a fusion riffle 20 times. sounds easy but takes longer then
it should do to random people taking kills. one thing i do wish destiny had was a horde mode. that would be good for going for bounties like that.
