How does it know which person is on which controller?

First time poster! Woohoo!

So, I have an XBox One and I have had a 360 for a long time. I completely get how in a 360, when you log in to controller 1, the top left green light is lit up, and 2 it's top right, etc. But, in an XBox One, how do you know which controller you are logged
into? Or, a better question might be, how does XBox one know that I picked up the correct controller after me and my friend both take a break. If I am using controller... say 1, and he is using controller 2, how do I know I picked up the correct one when I
come back from a break?

Also, How is it possible to have more people logged in than the number of controllers you have? If you have 4 people logged in at the same time, but you only have 2 controllers, how does the XBox One know which two people are actually playing? I just don't
get it.

while kinect is great for standing up and moving around that isnt what it is all about.

there is voice input which obviously doesnt require moving at all.

i am going to copy from another reply i made in a different thread about more subtle movements kinect can use to immerse someone further into a game:

kinect has facial recognition so it will auto log you in. it can also track controllers so if your friend comes by and picks up a controller it will notice and log him/her in. it will also split the screen according to where you are sitting, ps eye has this
feature as well.

the facial recognition goes further as it can see your mood. this can add greatly to in game immersion. if you are frustrated and your brow is furled and you have a frown on your face, your character in game may act frustrated. likewise if you are happy
and smiling. this could also be used in games that require bluffing or persuasion. this obviously isnt for everyone, but some people will love this level of immersion as it can put them further into the game.

then there are the more subtle movements. maybe a head flinch results in a small little in game flinch, again for those who really get immersed into the game. but it could also be something like tilting your head might let you peer around a corner.

and then there are the things we cant think of because we have always gamed a certain way for so long. i mean look at what touchscreens did. would you have ever guessed a game where you shoot birds out of a slingshot at pigs would get so huge? no because
its really not a fun game until you play it on a touchscreen then its this addictive little game. is it a great game? are all these little touch based games great? no, but they are fun for a bit. kinect could spawn a new type of game just like touchscreens
did.

 

Which is it?

I would pay the £429.99 with a game, or headset, or an extra controller to play split screen with my son, all things that I use.

 

The controllers Have an IR reciever in the top portion the kinect sees that and can tell which person is which and who is holding what controller

Yeah, ideally, you and your friend should be able to switch controllers and still control what you'd been controlling earlier. The Kinect ID system should be deciding who is controlling what by visual recognition. So in effect, there is no such thing as
the "correct" controller. As long as each user has a controller, the Kinect is keeping an eye on you to see where each set of IR commands is coming from.

 

Big Brother Kinect is always watching.
