How do you use credit to buy a game from the store???!

Ok- I am English, but I live in Japan. Just bought an Xbox one s and have been using a 360 prior to this. I have purchased and downloaded successfully in Japanese yen on the 360.

I am unable to put a credit card onto the system because (on both the 360 and xbox one) they insist on a credit card for the country you are in. I have a credit card, just not one with a Japanese address. So it won't work. PayPal (although the screen says
it will work in japan) never appears as an official payment option in the various payment 'add' type screens. The work around for this on the
360 was to get a voucher and put credit on the system and use that to buy stuff... It works!!! Yeah! Happy! BUT for some bizarre reason, the same method does
not seem to be working on my Xbox one. I've performed the exact same steps, confirmed the credit is definately there, but the only payment option I'm given is regarding adding a credit card (which I can't do, as mentioned above).
I've even tried using the store via my computer to do it. Same problem.

My question : do I have to click, switch, confirm, gesture, throw, do anything (!) to get the Xbox one to accept existing gift card based credit as a form of payment?? (I know about gold memberships not working this way, which is dumb, but I'm just trying
to buy normal game type content). I just want to spend money, but for some reason Microsoft don't seem to want it! (Shock, horror!)

Any help would be appreciated.

I tried to buy a game from the XBLA and it asked me to change payment options. After the change over I had €20.00 credit. How do I get to spend it? No option came up to use this credit.

You seems to be in such good humor about your difficulties I just had to follow up with your post. Yes, after getting my first Xbox One I discovered that somethings are handle a little bit differently in the back-end environment between the two consoles.
But, then again I'm in the US, so Microsoft efforts to take my money continue to be streamlined. And, I'm sure they are 'financially' happy to hear that you have found a temporary work-around using your Xbox 360. However, I do know that some people in other
part of the world have had problems redeeming some codes on their Xbox Ones. And from what I understand it had to do with the region the Xbox Live account was associated with. Now, I not sure that this will resolve your issue, but it was recommended for those other
international Xbox One owners to "Run your Xbox Live account through the
migration process ..." (if the link is broken see URL below). Hope this helps.

Turns out (after a lot of poking, cursing etc) that you can use the credit on the system (and PayPal for that matter) to purchase content.... Just not ALL content. For some bizzare reason not all games and add ons use the same purchase option functionality.

No idea why (at first I thought it was a pricing thing as the credit card only option, at first, only seemed to appear on things over ¥4000 ($40 ish). But I've found games less than that that require the credit card too... So I've no idea what makes things
have the different options. Trial and error unfortunately for me as there isn't a search option relating to payment options. Microsoft really need to get their butts in gear and just allow everything to be bought any way you wish.

I'm in a country that is still heavily cash based so not everyone has a credit card; vouchers/gift cards are most people's only options. Most online stores give the option to use machines in convenience stores that allow you to use cash for things purchased
from them or pay the postman on delivery - THAT'S how cash based they are here!

As a foreigner, it is also my only option as I don't have a credit card in this country (I can use it on so e things, obviously, but not with Microsoft). Microsoft really struggle to sell xbox units in Japan... Starting to understand why. (I can't even easily
buy an Xbox gift card here - I have to buy an Amazon voucher and then get a code through them!)

Anyway, rant over. Just thought I'd say thanks, and offer up a response so that anyone else having issues can hopefully get some kind of answer.
