How do you fix the virtual keyboard

I bought a xbox one series s second hand and as far as I can tell it is all fine when it comes to game play ect, however when asked to type anything onto the virtual keyboard I am unable to move around the keyboard with the highlighted key continuously flicking from the one or two gained paces back to the predictive words. I have already done stuff like power cycling and using different controllers.
