How do these forums really work, anyway?

    Questions about this forum:

    1. Who monitors and responds to these posts? Are there official Xbox employees, who speak directly for the company, and are employed by Microsoft, that are monitoring these forums?
    2. I understand that some people in here are "volunteers." How does that work? What authority do they have?
    3. How do we know who's-who?
    4. Who can "lock" posts?
I ask because a recent post of mine was unexpectedly locked, and a resolution was never found. In fact, another customer had the same problem, and in a completely new way that debunked the self-proclaimed "volunteers" response. So I feel like I was brushed
aside, and I'm not happy about that. My recent customer service experience with Xbox has been very poor, and I'm considering taking my business to the "other side" permanently as a result.

    :)

    Used code on wrong account

They tend to send people to the forums when they can't do something, but they don't really have an idea of how the forums work.

Forum moderators will have an "M" for there for there forum level or maybe a "V" if they're also an Xbox MVP.

Thank you for the information. Clicking on one of the badges is helpful to see what they mean.

So if I'm understanding everything, that means... my previous post was responded to condescendingly and unhelpfully by a volunteer/ambassador, then closed by someone with official status with Xbox before any resolution or explanation was found.

None of this is helping to keep my business, in fact, it's doing the opposite. I even tried Microsoft store chat support, they told me the store reps probably couldn't help (which I suspected.)

It's hard to tell why the thread was locked. More than likely it was locked to keep from turning into just a giant argument thread (which wasn't your fault, but is not allowed on the forums).

Unfortunately, Homegrown was correct though. There's not anyone on the forums who can really provide any sort of resolution or explanation for you. You would have to continue to try working with support directly, but even they may not be able to do anything
since the hard drive was not an official drive.

What they don't tell you, is that you can't find any "official drives" anymore, because it's not a slim Xbox. The whole thing has just been a waste of time and money for me, and I lost my entire gaming history. To make matters worse, I finally found a 250GB
hard drive on NewEgg.com, and when it arrived, it was not an Xbox brand hard drive as pictured in their ad! I'm over it. Microsoft did nothing to attempt to retain my business except continue to deflect my questions and concerns. I mean, all they had to do
was offer to attempt to recover my data, or send me a free game, or at least let me talk to supervisor. My career is in tech support, I know that it's not that difficult to do the right thing. My 20yrs of loyalty to Xbox is gone.

  11. You violated the TOS and you think that you deserve a free game from a company that had nothing to do with the hard drive that failed?!

P.S. You haven't been loyal to Xbox for 20 years. They haven't even been around for 13 years yet. The original Xbox was released on Nov 15, 2001.

Many times a thread will be locked because it has been answered, but the person posting does not like the answer they received. This can, and usually does, end up with the thread being more of an arguement then being helpful. In my opinion, Homegrown was
not being condescending, he was just stating the facts in a straight forward way.
