How do I update the firmware on the Xbox controller adapter for Windows 10

The Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows 10 has the newest driver (there's no firmware update in Xbox Accessories app) and the Xbox Series controller has the newest firmware (updated via Xbox Accessories app). Didn't help.

Please, get the App "Xbox Accessories" from Windows Store, and try again. It will try to update your Windows 10 drivers or Xbox One controller firmware.

If that does not work, try to update Xbox One controller firmware through your Xbox One console with a USB data cable.

I picked up an Elite Series 2 controller and Wireless Adapter for Windows 10 yesterday, 3/5/22, and received a firmware update for the controller today, 3/6/22 using the wireless adapter for Windows 10 connection.

-I first installed the XBOX Accessories app and then connected the controller via USB-C cable and created a name for the controller. No firmware update message popped up and I didn't see an option to force a firmware update manually.

-I next installed the Wireless Adapter for Window 10 on my desktop PC and received the notification sound and popup that the Wireless Adapter was being installed, but in Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & other devices the adapter showed "unable to install driver".

-Running Windows update, even though it was run immediately before installing the adapter, solved the adapter driver issue. Windows update saw the adapter and installed the driver using the main update function, not optional updates.

-I opened the XBOX Accessories app and again saw no firmware update option or notification of an update.

-I noticed the controller had one of the 3 profile LEDs lit and cycled through until none were lit and the controller was in Default mode.

-A firmware update notification appeared in the XBOX accessories app and I chose the option to update the firmware. I selected "Next" once the firmware updated, the only option.

-The firmware updated from version 4.7.XXXX.X to 4.8.1908.0. (Note: Lot number of controller is 2138)

-The Xbox Accessories app reverted to the homepage. I selected the 3-dots under "Configure" and the screen now showed the below image, including "No update available" button which when selected searches again for firmware. -





-This firmware update button did not previously exist until the in-app notification appeared following the above steps. After closing the app with controller profile set to Default or profile 1-3 the firmware update button still appears in the app.

-Forcing a firmware update shows the controller has the latest firmware, 4.8.1908.0. Same firmware as OP shows. I'm not sure if this is the actual latest in the wild but the app sees it as the latest.

I know my method of updating the firmware involves using the Wireless Adapter for Windows 10 but maybe switching the controller to Default profile (profile LEDs off) forced the app to look for firmware on its own, as the firmware in-app notification appeared immediately after toggling the Profile button on the controller from 1, 2, to 3 to Default.

I have not yet used the controller for gaming before or after the firmware update so am not aware if buttons other than Xbox on controller will perform actions not intended but will post again if any problems arise.

Have you tried updating it using the Xbox first?
