How do I set/change Xbox gamertag on test account?

How to change your Gamertag

Change your child’s Xbox privacy and online safety settings

When you set a gamertag from offline to online the system automatically changes the gamertag name for you. You do, however, get one free change of the tag. Follow the instructions at the link below to learn how to change the gamertag.

If the tag is available you should be able to re-enter it for use.

If that power cycle didn't work can you go to Settings > Network > Test network connection and Test multiplayer connection and see if you get any errors?

If you mean you changed the gamertag and you can't login anymore, please remove and redownload your account:

follow the steps on this link on how to change the username (gamertag):
support.xbox.com/.../change-xbox-live-gamertag

But you will need a xbox console or a windows live game to do so.

And as far as I know the gamertag change is free the first month of an account
