Unfortunately, you will not be able to see your username without the tag, as many other gamer had chosen the same name as you. Tags are there so we can tell people apart. Only the first person that had chosen the certain username will see their name without the #tag everywhere across the network. For everyone else, the only place where your #tag won't be displayed is if you visit your profile directly.

I think the addition of # tags is a great thing, as it gives everyone a chance to have the name they desire. Being told you can't pick a certain name because someone already has it is incredibly annoying, so this system is in place so everyone can have a name they desire.
