    How do I lower ping in Xbox Network Test and with local servers?


    I'm living in South Africa. Playing online games such as Battlefield and Halo work fine, ping wise.

    As soon as I play a game where fellow South African players host and invite me(or other way round), I still get pings of 250ms+, even if we all live close by.

    Guilty games are:

    Deep Rock Galactic

    Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance

    Aliens: Fireteam Elite

    (basically any game with drop in-drop out)

    On Xbox Networking Test, my Latency shows as 300ms+ & Packet Loss 0%.

    I'm thinking it has something to do with Xbox Servers when we're hosting and joining each other.

    If there anyway to fix this or lower latency? Local Xbox Servers or something?

    ignore that ping, it is just a burst test to a central server in the middle of the US, always show high ping rates, it is there to just test.

    You would need to speak with your ISP about your local ping rate as it is them that route your traffic.

    You can sometimes reduce ping by setting the dns servers manually in the xbox network settings to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 (googles dns servers)

    Hello Sethelz, in these cases you have two variables that cause latency to increase, the first is where the people you are playing meet physically, because if the person who created the group is distant you will connect where they are when joining the group, and this can increase latency.

    The second is on the issue of servers, you do not connect on Microsoft servers, but rather on the servers of the game in which you are playing, the connection to Live is for authentication only.

    In addition to paying attention to this issue of groups, one thing that can help is the exchange of DNS servers on your console and if you are connecting your Xbox over Wi-Fi switch the connection to network cable for greater stability.

    Latency on xbox series s is a lot more than on the laptop

    ignore the xbox tests, they are a burst ping test to a server in central US, it will always read high on that. the ping will be a little higher than your pc as it is going though xbox network first.

    and speedtest.net does a test to a close by server which is why it will be lower.

    Unfortunately, this is due to how far you are from your Microsoft servers. I have higher ping than you have as my country also does not have local servers. Some games may have a lower ping if they have local servers.

    Xbox series x latency issues.

    When you do the network test on the console, it doesn't always connect to a local server. It's more than likely connected to a server in the U.S, and a Ping of nearly 200ms would be consistent with this.

    Unless you actually have connectivity issues in games, I wouldn't concern yourself with what ping the Xbox network test provides. Port forwarding will have zero affect on latency anyway.
