  1. How do I install a game on PC to D: drive, not C: drive, using the XBox app?

I have PC Game Pass, so I want to install some games on my Windows PC. It seems the way to do that is with the XBox App for Windows. Okay, fine. I have the XBox app, I can find games on it.

I find a game, I press "Install", and it says: "Choose a drive, Requires xxx space: C:\XboxGames, xxx space available".

I don't have much space on C:, I'd like to install on my external hard drive, D:. It says "Change your install options in Profile > Settings > General". Okay, I go to the settings, and I find: "Change where this app installs games by default", and I set it to "D:".

Then I go back to the game and press "Install", and it says: "Choose a drive, Requires xxx space: C:\XboxGames, xxx space available".

How do I install to D:?

The really weird thing is, after I try to install, and I go back to settings, sometimes "Change where this app installs games by default" is set back to C:.

    Maybe that...means something, I don't know?

How do i add space from 1 drive to another.

    Hi,

You can't transfer space from D drive to C drive because these drives are a separate physical storage devices. You should be able to install games directly to the D:\ drive. You can move installed games and apps between drives though.

You'll need to free up some storage from your C:\ drive soon, either by moving games and apps to your D:\ drive or uninstalling unused apps or games from the C:\ drive. If you don't free up storage you won't be able to update your Windows installation.

This guide explains how to move games to different drives. How you move them depends what system the game was installed with (Xbox App, Steam, Epic), but all the main one's are included here.

Can't change install folder for xbox app (beta)

    Hi

The error "this drive has apps from another device and that it needs to be deleted". is a common access denied error and error code 0x80070005 is a Windows
    access denied error code.

It suggests to me that the D:\ drive already has Windows Apps installed from a previous PC or a previous Windows installation.

Have you either performed a fresh Windows 10 install recently or moved a hard drive from another machine into this one that used to have Windows Applications installed to the D:\ drive?

All Windows Apps including games are installed to a hidden protected folder called WindowsApps. The WindowsApps folder on the C: drive will be located in
C:\Program Files\WindowsApps. On other drives on the PC it will be in the root directory of the drive, so for D:\ it will be
    D:\WindowsApps

To use your D:\ drive again you'll need to take control of this hidden folder on your D:\ drive, and delete it.Take a look at

    this guide
    .

Remember however, that in your case you need to take permission of the WindowsApps folder on D:\ drive, there is no need to change anything on the WindowsApps folder on C:\ drive. Everything else in the guide is the same.

How do I install a game on PC to D: drive, not C: drive, using the XBox app?

    Hello JohnEvansCSeed,

    Thank you for your patience.

So, I figured it out. You need to format the external drive as a NTFS. Then in the storage settings set all new applications to install on the new drive. The Xbox app will install on that drive and all your games as well. Kindly see it on this link. Xbox PC app doesn't allow me to install games on external hard - Microsoft Community

We hope this time it will work for you.

We are looking forward to your response.

How do I install a game on PC to D: drive, not C: drive, using the XBox app?

    Hi ,

Welcome to Xbox Community Forums. We appreciate for sharing your concern with us and we hope that you are doing well today.

Thank you for the very detailed screenshot you provided on the post. We understand the inconvenience caused. We will be glad to assist you with this. However, before we proceed, we would like to ask some questions about it.

    1. Have you updated your device?
    2. When did the issue started?
    3. Is it happening to all games?
I've updated the Xbox app, I've uninstalled and reinstalled Gaming Services, I've restarted my computer. Same thing happens.

When did the issue started?...start? Well, this is the first time I've tried to install to a different drive, so it looks like it's always been like this.

Is it happening to all games? Yes.

All the links you gave me are links I looked through before making this post. Except for the "XBox console" one, which doesn't apply.
