How do I increase my download speed for digital games on my xbox one?

I recently purchased a digital copy of Halo 5 and it is taking forever, I have tried everything. I have turned off all the other systems in my house that use WIFI (phones, iPads, laptops) to increase my download speed and it barely has made any changes,
I have a wireless connection and when I checked my "Detailed Network Statistics" on the settings it says my download speed is 2.88 Mbps. Is that low? I even tried setting my DNS settings to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 and that barely did anything. It has taken almost
a whole day and it is only on 60%. My friend who lives down the street from me downloaded the game after I did and was able to play it before me. I feel like I have tried everything and need help.

Am I the only one with really long install times?

If you're using Disk installation disconnect from Xbox Live first will increase install speed if you're doing digital download make sure not to do update for Game till after game is installed let me know how that works out for you next game install

 

XB1 Full Game Digital Downloads

Instead of getting cheaper, Microsoft actually raised the prices of digital downloads. I personally do not prefer to buy digital games mainly because of my limited connection speed. Downloading over 20GB of data seems really large and a waste of resources. I also can't do anything else while downloading because I don't want to stretch the bandwidth and increase download time.

 

Don't play while its downloading or better yet turn system off (standby) not actually off. Most of it depends on your connection though

 

Wired connection if possible is better than wireless too

 

either you have a 3mbps connection to the internet, or your wireless is garbage. if you ran a speed test on your laptop or whatever, what speeds do you get?

Example:

If you're installing a 40-GB file and it shows 25 percent downloaded (30 GB remaining) and your connection speed is 10 Mb/s, it should take about 4.4 hours for the download to complete. (This assumes the speed stays the same.)

Your ISP connection speed should be at least 1.5 Mb/s for the best experience while connected to Xbox Live.

 

So OP,

Its going to take at least 2 days to download Halo 5.

Time to ditch your ISP.

 

Try a wired Ethernet connection to your router. What is your connection type? ADSL, fibre optic or cable?

 

Bird if you got GOOGLE fiber. That means it under a minute for 50GB?

 

I knew having faster speeds made a difference, but I had no idea it made THAT MUCH of a difference. It goes from 78 hours to less than 1!? Dios Mio....

I really need to find a way to get off my 5MB/s and get the 200MB/s - it would save me so much time!

 

This thread is another example of why some should consider buying
DISC. Who wants to wait 2 days to play a game after you purchase it? That's just kwazy! (with a k)

 

I totally agree with Goth.

If I had anything less than 20mb I'd definitely buy all my games on disk. Sure you can still get BIG updates but no-way would I want to wait "Days" for a game to download. Plus the fact, if there's a problem while downloading, internet cuts out ... ... then
you have the possibility of having to start it all again.

I guess not too bad if you can download it before release but still, waiting days for it to download, no thanks.

Using that table as a guide, If you're lucky enough to live in a city that has
Google Fiber (1,000Mb/s) a 50 GB file would take approximately 7 minutes to download.

I can't even fathom speeds that fast.

I agree, the fastest internet offerd here in Wyoming is 40 mbps. I used to have 1.5 mbps and it took me 16 hrs. to DL a 10GB movie and forget about watching Netflix in HD. When I switched to cable internet with 40mbps it was amazing 1,000 Mb/s would be like
time travel lol.
