How do I hard reset my Xbox one console?

Thank you for posting here on the Xbox forums. We understand that you would like to perform a hard reset on your Xbox one. Is this correct? There have been a few different meanings attached to "Hard Reset' so ill go ahead and list them for you below.

Usually, a hard reset means "Power cycle." You could perform a power cycle (Clears Cache, restarts console and every application instead of going to sleep mode) by following the steps on this article: How

You can also perform a hard factory reset (Deletes everything/ Settings back to defaults) or a soft factory reset (Keeps games and apps downloaded/ settings back to defaults) by follwing the steps on this link: How

If you end up needing to do a factory reset, please make sure you know your Xbox account email and password before continuing. You will have to re-sign into your account!

There are a few methods, the first is to just hold the power button in until it turns off. Here are the Xbox Support methods for power cycling your console.

The way I define a power cycle, is to remove the plugs of the devices from the mains for a minute or two, re-plug them in and try what you were originally trying to do, again.

The reason being, any remaining energy is discharged from the device and its power bricks (wait until the light turns from orange to nothing at all) and any digital traffic through the router/modem is cleared.

Its a power cycle. Just hold in the power button until the console shuts off. Wait 30 secs and turn back on. When it turns back on, you should have the green boot screen.

I read somewhere that a hard reset shouldn‘t be done very often, it can damage the console. True?
