How do I go about buying an external hard drive for the xbox one?

Is it as simple as going to wal-mart and asking if they have any external hard drives for the xbox one, or are there some things I need to know before buying one? I don't know much about them.

With these new black friday deals there are quite a few games I want to get, but only have 34.3 GB left, and that's after I deleted a few games already. I don't want to delete any of the bigger games because I know I'm going to go back to them, so an external
hard drive is now a must for me.

So, I recently purchased an external hard drive for my Xbox and moved 1 game just to test. How do I move the game from the external hard drive back to the Xbox so I don’t have to carry the external hard drive with me everywhere I go?

I am going to tell you how to remove the formatting on a External Hard Drive from a Xbox One.

Requirements:

Xbox 360

1. Insert external hard drive into Xbox 360

2. Go into System

3. Go into Storage

4. Press 'Y' on External Hard Drive (Will be called "unformatted device")

5. Click on Format

6. The External Hard Drive will now contain the Xbox 360's formatting.

7. If you do not want the Xbox 360's formatting on the External Hard Drive, all you need to do is format the External Hard Drive on a computer. Otherwise, if you don't care that the Xbox 360's formatting is on the External Hard Drive, then ignore this step.

Pretty much the only thing you need to know before buying an external HDD is that it must be USB 3.0. Which pretty much all of them are now anyway. I picked up a 3 TB for $99 on Amazon a while back.

so there is no specific hard drives meant for the xbox one? you can just buy any hard drive that has at least 256GBs and a USB 3.0?

 

Yep and the cheaper the better. One of the gaming websites did a comparison of the different types ( 5400 rpm, 7200 rpm and SSD) The additional cost of the faster drives wasn't worth the small performance increase you'd see.

 

if I order off amazon (which I've never done before) is it better to get a used one for cheaper, or should I just get a new one?

 

also, I live in Canada. would amazon charge me additional fees because of this?

 

I'm looking at the "Seagate Expansion 3TB Desktop External Hard Drive USB 3.0" for 99.99$. is this a good deal? will it work with my xbox one?

I'm sorry for all these questions. I just really wanna make sure I'm not gonna be wasting money here.

Preferably usb 3.0 and 2tb spinning at 5200 rpm is a great start. I say, I SAY if you go 3tb or higher the spinning of the HDD should be at 7200 or 7400 rpm I think. Going bigger means more games more time looking for the game within the drive, thus faster
rpm helps.

I use a Seagate Expansion 2tb usb 3.0 (connected to the back usb 3.0 on the XBOX ONE). 5200 rpm usb powered

Monday deals on a USB 3.0 HUB. 4 TO 5 MORE SUB 3.0 SLOTS are going to be necessary in the years to come. Remember the XONE goes up to 16 tb externally I believe.

Anyone find a usb 3.0 hub for a good price come on here and spread the word... word
