    There was a promotion last year where you could get the newer version for free, but that ended on 31 January 2018.

    Dont know if there is one maybe coming up again.

    It doesn't have the option that says "download the latest version of Minecraft for FREE!" on my Minecraft game.

    They do have promotions sometimes where you will be able to get the Bedrock version free. Latest one ended on 30 November.

    Only need to have played more than 5 hours or have purchased in game content in the marketplace of Minecraft.

    On when the next promotion will happen we do not have that information at the moment.

    Minecraft is however available on Gamepass.

Because I installed the new minecraft launcher, and according to it, I have the windows edition of minecraft, even though I have minecraft on my xbox. Would I just be unable to get a free java edition?
