How do I fix my high ping on my xbox series x (please help)

I recently switched to xbox series x from my xbox one x and unfortunately I have been experiencing extremely poor ping/latency.

I have tried to fix it by moving the console so it would be in a more airy space but this has not worked.

I am located very near my router and am confused to why the ping is so bad.

Often, it would be fine for a few seconds but then, it will shoot to 400-700 ping (actual numbers) and stay like that for even longer

This is extremely frustrating and have no clue how to fix it.

Please can anyone help me? It is ruining any experience I have on the console

    :)

so what i found helpful but i wont call it a fix is in this order change the dns i just use auto or googles dns. once you do change the port to the very last one on the list . then clear the mac address and reset your router . again its only a temp fix and u will have to do this over and over again . iv also forwarded ports which didnt help and even put the console into the dmz which did help keeping my my connection more steady buy i steongly urge u to not do this as it can expose you.

what i learned is its the nat . for some reason the xbox kiick my nat over to moderate or strict even while not pkaying a game or doing anything with the xboc but it being turned on and sitting it will kick the nat to strict . but it gets internet and my speeds are fine its the latency spikes up to 90 and i play destiny 2 which is a non dedicated p2p connection which rides pretty heavy on having an open nat .

some internet companies will allow you to enable upnp and i believe that should help unfortunantly for me mine does not allow me to adjust these setting with out payin a extra 30 bucks a mobth for thwor complete care pkg when i already have the top of the line net service from them and i just refuse to have to pay for more services just to adjust a setting i should be able to adjust when i want . but this is the way of thing nowadays is it not . there is a service for the service so to speak. either way my conclusions are based in my opinion that it is not faulty hardwear in the xbox but either bad net coding with microsoft somewhere or microsofts servers need a big improvment . i also have ps5 and dont have this issue at all and play the same exact game on it with the same exact internet . worst part is there are only generic fixes avaible but people are posting about this so u cant convince me microsoft isnt awear of there piece of **** they sold me.

This does not sound like it is anything to do with your internet. I have bought a series x and recently discovered this issue when I noticed nobody was joining my game. Apparently my ping is high enough to join others but not good enough to host. I have spoken to xbox about it and they have reccomended that I send in my xbox under warranty. I am currently playing my xbox one original and it does not have the issue. If you look around the internet it is an issue that exists with people and they don't know why.

    Greetings Realmz100,

Sorry to hear about your ping issues. Is this happening with a particular game or is it happening when you perform a network or multiplayer test within the console settings themselves?

I would recommend checking your consoles region settings as well to ensure you are setup to connect to the closest server. Normally your console would connect automatically to the best data center to give you the best experience, however there can be complications if your console somehow is setup outside of the region you are in. Please find information on how to check and change your consoles region here.

The other issue might be something completely out of your control, and that is your internet service provider. If they are experiencing an outage, maintenance, or change in how they operate. This can affect your online capabilities. I would recommend reaching out to their support and advise them of your recent issues and they might be able to shed some light on things.

The last item to check would be your router. Being close to your router isn't always the best solution. There might be a setting that limits the traffic to your new Xbox that causes a high ping. The settings in your router can be very complex but I would look for options about gaming, blocking ports, firewalls, or anything that looks like it might limit your connection. The best route to do is to look up their support page as well and search for settings they suggest using for your new Xbox.

Now all of these are for the system level, if your problem is with a specific game, I would check the game settings themselves to make sure you are connected to the best region to play in the game itself. Plus check the games server status page to see if they are aware of any issues.

Hope this helps and happy gaming!

I am having the same issue oshuachipper word for word what you said and I have an Xbox S and have tried everything you have mentioned and have come to the conclusion it is the router nat type switching from moderate to open in the background. I have slightly fixed mine to where it says Open Nat Type but when it come to play games like rocket league where I can see my ping it spikes to 90 for 10sec and comes back to normal and somehow I don't get kicked. Its somehow switching to moderate for some reason the auto Upnp in the xbox to router is something wrong just not sure what and just want to play with my friends without being kicked every so often
