How do I enable cross platform play for Fortnite on our XBox Series S?

I believe you're getting that error because of how you're account is set up. Try changing your Privacy Settings by following the instructions below;

Kindly sign in to your account at https://account.xbox.com/en-us/social?rtc=2 > click on your profile icon at the upper right corner of the page > click on the ellipses button (...) > then click on Xbox Settings.

Once you're on the Xbox Settings, click on "Privacy & Online Safety". Once you're on the Privacy & Online Safety page, you should be able to see your account.

Please click on it to change your Privacy Settings. Make sure that all settings under the Privacy tab and Xbox One/Windows 10 Online Safety are set to "Allow" or "Everyone". It should be like this:

Yes and no. The game in question needs to have cross-platform enabled, like Fortnite or Minecraft.

Games that do not support cross-play you will not be able to play with other platforms.

Yes! I'm having this same problem too! I thought I was going crazy. I'm trying to match up with a friend on fortnite (he's on ps4) and I kept getting a 'cross-platform play currently disabled' error message. So after searching online and checking my settings, turns out its enabled so I don't understand whats going on, also I was able to play other games (paladins, smite) cross-platform no problem. Also I'm playing on Xbox series S.

Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. Which game is the child attempting to play that is cross platform? The only game that is available for cross platform play between Xbox and PlayStation is Fortnite. If the game attempting to be played is
Fortnite, child accounts do not have the ability to cross platform play at the moment. This is a decision made by Microsoft. The reason is that Microsoft is currently working on adding a parental setting that allows the parent to enable cross platform play
for the child account. We do not have an update on when this feature will become available, but we are aware of it and are working on it diligently. We will post an update on the Xbox forums about adding that feature to the parental settings as soon as we
get another update. We look forward to hearing from you again.

Square Enix has declared that they would like to bring FFXIV on XBOX ONE and SWITCH with cross-platform play with PC and PS4. That will probably be the main issue considering how SONY is not willing to enable the cross-play on PS4 (see Fortnite as an example).
