How do I connect my Xbox one S controller wirelessly to the console?

If you can plug it in via a USB cable it should then automatically sync it; from then on it should work wirelessly, (assuming you have batteries or a charge pack inserted, of course).

If this doesn't work then you may have a faulty controllers and you may need to return it to where you bought it from or send it to Microsoft for a refurbished replacement if in warranty.

Thank you for posting here on the Xbox forums. The Elite controller does not support Bluetooth. The only controllers that do are the base controllers from the Xbox one S and X consoles. You would have to use the

wireless adapter for windows in order to connect wirelessly.

This does not occur if I connect the same headset via wire/headphone jack to the controller.

It only occurs when connected wirelessly to the Xbox one S.

I have this same exact problem. The xbox can communicate with the controller (the console will turn the controller on, and the controller will turn the console on wirelessly), but it will not do anything more than that unless plugged in with the micro USB
cable. The controller does bind when I use the connect button on the back and point it at the Kinect, but none of the buttons do anything wirelessly.

My wireless xbox controller will turn my xbox console (xbox one s) on, but will not operate the console after it is on. This started as I was playing and walked away from the xbox console with the controller in my hand. I cannot get the controller to connect to, or control, the xbox either wirelessly or with a USB-C cable attached. Also, this controller will not turn the console off. This controller may be 8-12 weeks old. I have a second controller that will turn on, operate and turn off the console, but it will not hold the horizontal so I can't use it. (This is at least the 3rd or 4th controller I've had to buy.)
