  2. Problems connecting Xbox One to external speakers

The only way to get sound out is hdmi or Spdif.

If your devices can't accept hdmi it's likely that it accepts Spdif. My system is over 10 years old and it works just fine using 5.1 DTS via Spdif.

    Xbox 360 surround sound question

I am about to purchase Vizio 37" E371VL Flat Panel Full HDTV TV 1080P 60HZ for my xbox 360 and wanted a surround sound with it. I am considering

Dynex DX-HTIB. I want to keep the signal digital for best quality. I was going to use xbox's support method of using the HDMI audio splitter but the theatre receiver doesn't have any digital inputs only hdmi and spdif outputs. the hdtv has hdmi input
and spdif output. So are there any options, like would it be possible to use two HDMI connections simultaneously in order to get surround sound on xbox?

Turtle Beach makes a fairly cheap adapter that connects inline with the HDMI and extracts the audio and provides and optical out.

    Earforce HDAC

A lot of TV's do have optical out so I would double check to see if yours has one. Some only pass through a Dolby Pro Logic or similar mix while some pass along all the audio untouched.
