How do I connect an Xbox One to a computer monitor?

I might be buying an Xbox One soon, so I want to get this 'out of the way' before I do.

I know how to connect my 360 to my computer monitor (through the VGA port on my monitor, or maybe its DVI??), but no idea on how to do it with an Xbox One. There is an HDMI port on the monitor, so if I have to have that it's there.

Google doesn't seem to be a big help because I can't understand any of it, or they don't say what I need.

How do you connect an Xbox One to a computer so you can play Xbox One games on your computer monitor?

 

Using windows 8 on xbox live

With my last computer, I could connect my computer to my xbox with ease and watch my videos from my computer on my xbox. With my windows 8 computer, it seems as if I won't be able to do that being that this computer doesn't have windows media center. So
how do I connect my computer to my xbox? (If I can at all)

 

Possibly use HDMI (if your monitor has the input) or a HDMI/DVI adapter? Not sure if the XBOX one has issues with that adapter but maybe worth a shot.

 

I there a specific name for the type of cord I need? I don't want to get something wrong (Im a doofus when it comes to things like this...)

 

Any computer shop will be able to sort you out with a DVI/HDMI adaptor. It's literally a small box with a HDMI connection that goes in to a DVI port. Failing that you can easily get one from Amazon, eBay etc etc.

The Xbox obviously comes with HDMI so plugging that straight in will also work with no hassle at all.

 

I made an oopsie, my monitor doesn't have an HDMI hookup, so I will need to get an adapter. Been a while since Ive had to look where the hookups are, so Ive forgotten.

Out of curiosity, what resolution/aspect ratio is your monitor bud?

 

I honestly have no idea, and Im not sure how I would find out. My 360 started with the 'E-79' error last night, and if I have to have something connected to my monitor to see what it is, I have to wait until my 360 is repaired. But if I just need to plug
it in....I could do that.
