How do I connect an Xbox 360 remote to my windows 11 PC?

I've found various guides online saying that Windows 10 will automatically install the drivers when you plug in the remote to your computer, but on my Windows 11 PC, nothing happens. Is it possible to connect my wired Xbox 360 remote?

Are we talking about a 360 that is hardwired or a 360 controller that you have attached a Play and Charge to?

The hard wired 360 controller should just work. There are no drivers available to download on the Windows 11 as Win 11 already has these drivers b built in to the OS. If your controller isn't working, either there is something wrong with your OS install, the controller is faulty or your controller is a a cheap knock off controller that doesn't actually support XINPUT.

If you've attached the controller via a Play and Charge note that the 360 wireless controllers are always wireless. They can not send control data via the charging cable. If this is the case you'll need a 360 wireless gaming adaptor. The Xbox One Wireless adaptors don't work with 360 controllers.

Yes, you can. But you need to find and download the Xbox 360 drivers from an open source site. Microsoft had removed the drivers from the Microsoft store a long time ago so open source is your best bet.

I would have sent a link but I don't really trust any of those sites enough to suggest them. So a quick Web search for "Xbox 360 drivers for Windows" should bring up websites you can choose from.

Viral - That is incorrect. Since day ONE, the Xbox 360 had the ability to connect with Windows Media Center, as well as the ability to stream photos or music from your PC (and music 'in the background').

If the 360 couldn't do that stuff from day ONE, then why does my launch day 360 - with the special launch day remote control, have a Windows Media Center button ON THE REMOTE!?

This is how I have connected my remote in the past when I used it with my computer, just by connecting the USB to the computer and into the controller. For some reason this has stopped working though and no longer turns on the remote when I plug it in
