How do I confirm that my new Xbox Wireless Headset battery is not charging?

I have a brand new Xbox Series X and Xbox Wireless Headset. When I took the headset out of the box, the battery was completely drained. I plugged it into the console with the provided cord, and it charged (solid white light) in about an hour.

I used the headset for about 45 minutes before it died. Confused, I left it plugged in again, this time overnight. It lasted about 10 minutes on that charge.

Now, I have tried a total of 3 USB-C charging cables (both connected to the Xbox and connected to the wall). The first cable connected to the wall took about 4 hours to charge it completely, but it still died in about 10 minutes when reconnected to the Xbox. No matter what combination of charging I use, when I turn on the headset, it says critical battery and lasts 10 minutes or less.

I have updated the headset via the Accessories app, and followed instructions to reset & re-pair it per Microsoft Support. I really don't want to have to exchange it for another. Is there anything else I can do?

I will reiterate that I literally took it out of the box yesterday. Thanks.

    :)

    Wired versus Wireless Controllers/Headsets

I currently use wireless controller with rechargeable batteries with a wired headset. I am considering going wireless headset but would have to see how long battery life is and if it is able to be used while charging.

    Disconnecting Xbox 360 Bluetooth headset

Low battery indicators and battery life

Your wireless headset has two low-battery charge indicators:

•When 30 minutes of time remains: Lights flash about twice per minute until five minutes remain.

•When 5 minutes of time remains: Lights flash continuously until the headset shuts off.

    Notes

•It typically takes two hours to charge the battery on your headset.

•Make sure that the battery is depleted before recharging it, in order to maximise the life of the battery.

•If the headset is not used for a long time, the battery may lose its charge. If this happens, recharge the headset.

    -

If the headset charging cable is connected to the headset and the battery fails to charge, the headset’s first two lights will flash in sequence (1, 1 and 2; 1, 1 and 2; and so on). Leave the headset connected for a while to see if the battery charges normally.
If the lights on the headset continue to flash, contact Xbox Support using the Assistance information at the bottom of this page.

    USB ports as power source

Yes, the USB port do stay on to power as most people who play on the Xbox will charge their accessories after using the console such as the Wireless Microphone or battery pack. I personally charge my phone, wireless microphone and headset off the console
    with no issues.

    Wired versus Wireless Controllers/Headsets

My headset is wired to my controller while my my controller is wireless. I know it will take more batteries like this but im not a competitive gamer at all.

I do have rechargeable batteries that is charged near me at all times.

    problems with wireless controllers

My controllers are doing the same thing. They are both wireless controllers. I tried one with new batteries and the other with a battery pack. When it's plugged in with the battery pack it works and even says that it has a full charge. When I disconnect
the cord, it won't reconnect to the XBOX. I don't have anything new (wireless or bluetooth or anything) that would be interfering with the signal - to my knowledge.
