    How do I claim a gamertag to prevent possible defamation?


    I am a decently popular Youtuber/Streamer known as Mezmoreyez, i recently ordered an Xbox One and tried to make an Xbox Live account in preparation for it's arrival.

    however upon trying to claim my name "Mezmoreyez" i notice that it has already been taken, Seeing as Mezmoreyez is sort of a unique name and my Youtube/Twitch channels are the first thing that come up when you google it, id rather not have somebody i dont know
    running around with my name.

    Is it possible to claim this for myself to prevent possible defamation?

    Hi

    It is possible that this gamertag is tied to another Microsoft account that is not active on Xbox Live or the gamertag is one that had been withheld by Microsoft for another reason and this will prevent you from being to claim the gamertag.

    How do I dispute an account suspension or at least get relevant information about what brought it about?

    1. Is there proof of poor language / behavior online?

    2. How is a report substantiated? What is to prevent someone from simply making a false claim against someone and getting them banned?

    3. How can I find out which gamer made the complaint to possibly ban them or prevent them from making such a claim?

    4. If there are multiple people in a game 'chatting' what is to prevent the wrong party from being accused / blamed and subsequently punished / banned?

    I believe my son may have received a 'temporary ban' in error and was curious as to how this was handled both proactively and reactively

    Defamation is someone saying something about you that isn't true that would adversely affect your reputation. That is not what is happening here.

    When it comes to Gamertag names, the person who currently holds the gamertag you want has full right to possess it. It's first in, first served.

    Sorry but if the gamertag is taken then there's nothing you can do about it.Just because you use the name on youtube/twitch doesn't mean you own that name.

    You will have to come up with a different gamertag i'm afraid.

    Sorry but if the gamertag is taken then there's nothing you can do about it.Just because you use the name on youtube/twitch doesn't mean you own that name.

    You will have to come up with a different gamertag i'm afraid.

    Slander and Defamation is a CIVIL matter, not a criminal matter. ALSO, Slander and Defamation can only occur if the slander and defamation was A) Made in Public, usually the media in some form, and B) You use REAL names........

    Since you have an "anonymous" Gamertag, and the "accusations were NOT made on a public media source, then you have ZERO basis for any kind of lawsuit.

    Also, There is ZERO chance you you being able to subpeona MS for the chat messages.

    Well I have no idea what the issue is because Microsoft took my money and the gamertag is mine, of course not on the account I wanted it on.

    Iv tried searching Google for similar experience to which I found none, can't imagine why one account saw it as taken when it obviously wasn't.
