How do i choose which hard drive i want a game/addon installed to?

ive got 3 drives on my xbox one - the internal 500gb drive, a external usb3 2tb drive and a fast 240gb usb3 ssd.

the machine seems to place things where it wants......... and i dont want it doing it!!

i want to choose where, lets say fallout 4, gets installed.

not for the xbox to install it to the slower 2tb drive and then me having to wait ages to 'move' the stuff across to my ssd afterwards.

i have to do it with every game. its tedious.

not to mention that if a game is on the internal drive or ssd, when you install an addon, said addon gets installed on a compeltely different drive!!

(example. moved witcher 3 to ssd. addon came out. downloaded addon and it stuck it on the 2tb drive.)

thats poor design. if theres room on the game installation drive, then thats where the addons should be aswell!!

tell me im missing something, and theres an option to do what i want?

How do I play from hard drive after the update?

Just start the game. You don't have to choose a "play from hard drive option". Once a game is installed it will automatically play from the hard drive no matter how you start it.

Moving Windows Games to New Hard Drive SSD?

Just bought a new SSD Hard Drive to download my Window Games on. However, there is no information on how to transfer games onto new hard drive from the previous hard drive because my space is reaching it's maximum. In addition, there is no way to direct
new game downloads onto which hard drive I want it installed on. New games I download automatically goes onto default hard drive when I first installed Microsoft Store.

If anyone with answers to these questions, it'll be greatly appreciated.

In all honesty I haven't found an option though I noticed when you hook a new hdd up the os will ask if you would favor this drive. Disconnect you 2tb and just hook up your ssd, than there is no choice. Also, Fallout 4 is running great on my external 1.5tb
2.5 inch drive.

You just need to go to Settings and Storage.

You can then select where stuff is stored if you have multiple drives.

You do this by prioritisiing the one you want to be the one the stuff goes on.

This isn't anything new with the preview program.

You've been able to do this ever since they enabled External HD's.

I rather be stuck in the 1980s then spend $200 to $300 on an SSD especially when the console comes with 512 GB that will fill up with three games yes it is nice to have faster storage but I will take the hit if they'll let us choose which version of the game you want to install especially since I can't really afford the ssds they're too high. I'm one of them type of people that would rather spend $50 on a slow mechanical hard drive then $300 on an SSD. The PS5 let's you choose which version of the game we want to install why can't the Xbox that's the basic question I'm asking. I understand the benefits of having an nvme drive I have an nvme drive as a boot drive in my computer it ain't no Gen 4 drive like we have in the Xbox but it's still an improvement over a hard drive not all of us prefer our games to be quick and snappy we just want them to work without the hassle of moving between drives maybe when ssds get cheaper especially nvme Gen 4 drives then maybe I might consider the trade off. Not all of us think like you do we're thinking by the wallet not by how fast the Xbox can access data. The Xbox series s is meant for Budget gamers right I guess not it leads let us choose which version of games to install or let the series s have an option to install and play off a hard drive. I do fully understand the benefits of nvme Gen 4 drives but right now they're just too high in price.

I want the game to download on my external hard drive as I do not have enough space. How do I get the game to do that has I ensured that the installation location is set to my hard drive but the game keeps trying to install on my internal storage?
