Keep in mind that Microsoft points were discontinued well over a year ago, so you will see currency, not points.

When you sign up for a Microsoft account or add an email address to your account, we automatically send a request to that email for you to verify that we have the right address. To finish the process, just follow the verification link in the email. If you need a new verification email:

Sign in to Manage how you sign in to Microsoft.

A Verify button will be next to any unverified aliases.

Click Verify next to your email address, and then click Send email.

You can access the marketplace from your console. If you see something you want, click on the item and choose to purchase from the pop up page that comes up.

Games on demand may require you to press (X) to switch from $ to points. The upcoming currency system will make this much easier to manage.

Currently, you can only use the Microsoft Points to purchase games, movies, and t.v shows on Xbox.com / Xbox 360 console / Games for Windows LIVE. Later this year you'll be able to use those Microsoft Points (which will be converted to your local currency)
on Windows 8 Store and the Windows Phone Store. This is not currently possible.
