How do I change the account I sign into the Xbox app with?

I just got a new PC and first signed into it with my primary email but this email is different from my xbox account email. How can I sign into the correct xbox account on the xbox app?

The xbox app said the Microsoft Store account and xbox account were different and whether I wanted to change or keep current settings. This did not do anything. The Microsoft Store account is the correct one but it will not allow me to use it to log into the Xbox app.

I have tried adding a new 'alias' to the account/computer but it states "This email is part of a reserved domain. Please enter a different email address." Both email accounts are Microsoft.

Is this PC now locked out of being able to log into my Xbox account using the Xbox app?

The domain that you want to add for your Microsoft account ends in @hotmail.com? Or it's a custom domain?

Also, if you try to sign out via Xbox app and then press the sign in option. Are you automatically signed in the other Microsoft account?

Or are you able to see something like "Not you" "Use a different account"?

The domain I want to add is just the email I use for my Xbox account, it does end in @hotmail.com.

If I sign out and then sign in it just signs in to the microsoft account that I use to log into my PC

Thank you, I ask that because you can't add Microsoft domain emails as aliases for another Microsoft accounts.

Let's try something different to isolate the problem a bit more.
Please try creating a new local administrator user in your PC and try adding the desired account there.

This actually happens because the app signs you automatically to the Microsoft account used for your Windows session. Even if you change the session, the same thing will happen with that account because you can't be signed in to a windows session and use a different Microsoft account on the the app. The only work around concerning this case is to manually sign out and change the Xbox profile.

You can change it through xbox app by signing into your account on the app and going to your proflie, going to customize and then work from there. You can also sign into your account on xbox.com and do it there I believe.
