How do I change or update my avatar gamerpic?

For games such as hexic or uno it has a gamepic of my avatar wearing a santa hat! Just wondering how I change this. My 360 gamerpic is not or has never been this pic and I didnt even get a windows phone until about 2 months ago, long after I took a santa
hat off my avatar. Any info on this would be awesome. Got htc 8x and kinda new to games for windows 8 phones.

When I try to change my avatar it asks for an update, I said yes, but it keeps updating forever

I try to change my avatar, the 360 ask to update the clothes and accessories and I agree to update. It has been updating for 4 hours and there has been no progress at all! Please tell me how to get the update to work so I can change my avatar.

Bling Ninja Dress Up not showing

I rarely ever buy things for my avatar but I went ahead and bought Bling Ninja Dress up costume on my Xbox one, it's been several days and it won't update. No matter how much I change things or restart. So clearly there's an issue on Microsoft's end. For
$4 all I ask is that my outfit for my avatar change.

I've encountered this once before, and the solution we reached was this:

The picture in the game is based on a profile picture you took a while ago, and I think within WP games it chooses the most recent picture you had of your Avatar. To change it, go to the web Avatar Editor (live.xbox.com/AvatarEditor)
and select 'Gamer Picture.' On the next screen you can choose 'gamer picture' where you can take a new 'image' of your Avatar, now wearing the updated clothing. This should then update in-game.

On your 360, you should then be able to change back to your current gamer picture while Uno and Hexic keep the most recent Avatar picture.

Let us know how you get on.

Why is it that Uno, Hexic, XbL Rewards, etc use the Avatar picture rather than a downloaded gamerpic?

I appreciate your response. I'm totally familiar with using gamerpics, but my specific problem is that any changes I make to my avatar are not showing up on my gamerpic. Both the xbox one and xbox.com allow me to make the changes, create a new gamerpic,
but it's just not updating afterwards. It keeps my old appearance as if no change was made.

In the screenshot, the reason the smaller icon has the (older) blue shirt is that this does not update automatically. It is your gamerpic, and reflects what your Avatar was wearing when you took the picture. If you want to change the Avatar in the gamerpic
you should go to Xbox.com/My Account and beneath your Avatar choose 'Edit My Avatar'. On the next screen you can choose 'gamer picture' where you can take a new 'image' of your Avatar, now wearing the updated clothing.
