How do I benefit from running my dish through my xbox one?

Sorry no one helped you on this. I too have dish and use the hdmi pass through. One benefit is that you do not need to switch inputs, just apps. You can use cortana if you have a kinnect or if you are using your headset. Also this will show you what is trending
and you can change channels by voice or with the controller if you have a kinnect- just make sure that your dish receiver has line of site to the kinnect, mine bounces off a wall behind me and back to the receiver. You can just say, hey cortana watch tv. then
you can tell it to change to X channel, like watch history channel or whatever. Kinnect is probably one of the best features of this, but not switching inputs is nice too.

It does help, thank you. Unfortunately, I do not have Kinect.

I have Kinect (and love it for powering on/off, telling to snap apps, switch TV channels, pause films etc.) but also bought a

tiny mic for £2.00 that goes in the controller jack that you can use for voice commands. I don't use Cortana as found she never understood me or went and started searching Internet when I wanted to change channels and switch back to use original Xbox commands.
Get the £2 mic and you will get the benefit. Even better get a cheap Kinect, register it on you Xbox\Microsoft account and claim the free power supply that Kinect now needs. Then you can walk into the room after a hard day and say "Xbox On" and your Xbox,
TV, Satellite will all turn on and you can sit down and not even think about remote controls.

I have a Hopper from Dish running through my Xbox One and so far no problems. I would suggest the same as FullHornet and recalibrate the Kinect.
