How do I back up online game purchases and progress to an external hard drive from a X-Box 360?

My X-Box 360 is slowly dying, and I do not want to lose the games, DLCs, and progress that are stored on my X-Box's internal hard drive. I know there is a way to have this data backed up, but I have not been able to find out how to and to what devices I
can save the info to, in case my X-Box totally shuts down. I would like to save the data to my portable 1 TB hard drive, but I need guidance. In addition, would I be able to download the info to an X-Box One if I replace my X-Box 360 with one or would I only
be able to download to another X-Box 360?

Unable to move game to external storage

Hi, after the update I do not have an option to move a game to my

external hard drive. It only allows for uninstall for the games on the x

box one?

Anybody have this issue? I have enough space on the external hard drive and the games still load from the external hard drive?

external hard drives

i have been looking at external hard drives for awhile now and was thinking would i be able to use my old computer external hard drive? flash drives u can just configure so how would a external hard drive that you use for a computer b any different. so my
question here is can i use a computer external hard drive for my x-box slim by configuring it? or would it not let me do that?

FYI to add what air said you can also download anything you ever had via your download history for free so the only thing you would really need to back up on a flash drive is your profile and saves to save space.

Well fortunately I had a old usb external hard drive, after reformatting it on the 360 it worked enough to back up almost all the data except for the games themselves. Apparently MS won't allow you to download Marketplace Purchased games. But no biggie.
I didn't even have to use the cloud storage and wouldn't be able to because of the limited size. It's a pain downloading the games themselves, but eh...

So far the hard drive, which didn't come in the original plastic sealed box that MS provided now, but instead came in a small cardboard box that I brought off Amazon, seems to be doing it's job.

Another question: do they sell a 500GB Xbox360 hard drive?

The internal hard drive on the new Xbox series x is totally blank there is nothing on the internal hard drive zero zip so all my games are on the external hard drive told the machine to update to the external hard drive it will not update to the external hard drive do I have a defective machine I just bought it does it need to be returned can you help or not and if you can how to!?

Hi,

What do you mean that you're using a 250GB external hard drive? Are you using a USB external hard drive? External USB Hard drives won't work for playing original Xbox games.

If you are using an original Xbox 360 console where the hard drive fits on top make sure that the hard drive you have is an original hard drive and not a 3rd party hard drive. If you've purchased a hard drive for this console separately from a website like
eBay or Amazon Marketplace it's likely that you've purchased a 3rd party hard drive.

Only original Xbox 360 hard drives that are manufactured by Microsoft will work on your Xbox 360. Otherwise, they would give you this error whether it was an original Xbox game from the Xbox LIVE marketplace or on a disc.
