    How Do I Avoid Xbox Updates When it Turns on


    Xbox is updating almost weekly and takes 30 minutes or longer when its first turned on.

    Am not in the preview program.

    I bought my mum an xbox to watch netflix and YouTube etc.

    She doesnt have wifi and just uses her phone hotspot to connect to the internet when she wants to use it a few times a week.

    I know you can set the xbox to update automatically when it is turned off but is this only possible with wifi?

    Or is it going to have to update at inconvenient times every week with a phone hotspot when she wants to use it?

    Hi there,

    On the Xbox One Console go ahead and go into your:

    • Settings
    • Click on System
    • Click on Updates
    Under latest console update status, you will see the Games & apps box, here go ahead and uncheck the box labelled "Keep my games & apps up to date.

    Hello Harold,

    Thank you for posting here on the Xbox forums. How often is this happening, and do you get any error messages when it does? Are you using an external hard drive?

    Also keep in mind if a digital game is updating, and there is an interruption with the update, the whole game will uninstall to avoid corruption. The fix for that would be turning auto updates off. The cause to that is usually a weak wifi connection with
    the console.

    Last Starfield update broke the game! Now does not play! Will Microsoft return my money or get Bethesda to undo last update that broke a perfectly good game on game pass?

    Thanks for the link. I found a YouTube video that suggested that I delete game again and download directly from Xbox store. Maybe it will download original game before updates… I have game updates turned off. So hopefully I avoid this problem in the future. And can select which updates and avoid bad ones… or just play the game that is working and do not upload new updates or fixes… thanks again I will try your link to contact Bethesda.
