How did gaming get so bad ?

theres those who's been playing games on computers since day one.

these are the people who see less and less content for your money

now today to get the full game they sell you the basic engine of the game and make you pay for the rest as an add-ons (not all I will say and that's where the value lays in those games)

hell you can even buy add-ons/added content on the release day for a lot of these half written buggy so called games

and you people support this idea !!

no wonder it is like it is .

 

Another problem is if 10-20-30% of the game is dlc how the heck are we gonna play that game in 20yrs if you wanted too?

its one giant mess of an industry right now & us gamers are our own worst enemy

 

just add I had an e-mail off my new ISP to day moaning and saying if I carry on downloading so much data then they will no longer sell me the always on connection lol :/

and all I have done is updated the games on my xbox one lol :/

now I know this has nothing to do with Microsoft but it hint to me that these massive updates are over the top to the point my ISP does not want my business :/

so I'm not the only one who thinks the size of these patches and updates then all the added content you will have to buy if you want to play the full game lol ...

yea again I repeat, I know it's not microsofts fault but the game makers need to sort there act i never had a warning about losing my ISP over the amount of data I'm downloading when using my xbox 360 and updating ..

just all the game on the disk in the first place then I wont have to spend most my gaming time buying add ons and updating massive patches ..

The OP is attempting to equate quality with quantity, which doesn't work. While he does make a point of games often having less content than their predecessors, I don't think it's really worth worrying about since the newer games generally offer better overall
quality (some examples of what I'm referring to - Forza Motorsport 4 offered fewer tracks, but better overall gameplay; Halo 5 Guardians offers less customization options for your Spartan than in previous Halo games, but some of the best gameplay ever before
in a Halo game; Battlefield 4 offered more maps, vehicles and weapons than ever before, but crashed like crazy and was bug-ridden during its 1st few months - and kind of still does). Otherwise, I agree with what Daft Badger has already said.

 

StevieNick I suspect I have been gaming longer than you, and was gaming long before PC's and Im not one of those people.

You and the OP are generalising and ignoring the fact that there are plenty of games that don't go down this road, the last 4 to 6 months of my gaming time (I game every day) has been taken with three titles that provide excellent value for money and don't
rely on MT's or map packs. And all the games I chose to buy and play before that were the same. Not everyone goes down the EA route so to say the gaming industry as a whole is a mess is not true in my opinion and my games playlist backs that up.

I haven't bought a map pack or any MT's since I bought the One and I haven't missed out on anything I wanted apart from the Destiny DLC which I refused to buy.

All excellent games that didn't hold back anything for DLC or force MT's in my face. So that's 11 months of quality titles that have given me no end of gaming enjoyment. Industry doesn't look that bad to me....

 

EA have done a great job with "Star Wars: Battlefront".

It's really fun to play and it captures the films perfectly.

Thats what you want from a video game.

This buy add on's has been going on for a long time for all formats ... I would rather payfor the full game then have to keep being forced into add ons if once you bought the game an then want the full experience ..

which they only sell you select part to start with once you bought the game ( or game engine they use to make the game because that's all you really get)

I'm not saying all games but a lot of them are starting this trend.

Just a little food for thought for those who are having the discussion about pricing, DLC and all... I found this.

It's a bit of a read, but for those who really want to know what's going on with pricing and why nearly any console game you can think of doesn't vary from the status quo... I think it sheds some light on things. Whether or not it's a good or bad light is
a matter of perspective... not to mention the integrity of the publisher.

For me, the best way I can explain the new Battlefront is like having a nice ,beautiful car ,that you want to show off and love but no where to drive it.

 

BTW Happy thanksgiving to everyone ,even if you dont celebrate it. Today and Christmas are the only two days I put aside my life consuming anger and try to be decent.

 

@StevieVicks. it's called an opinion, I was expressing mine, it differs from yours, that's what makes a discussion.

 

I would love to get involved in a discussion (not the one about Genchy's username ) about game pricing but thats not what the title of the thread is about which is a shame IMO

 

@Genchy - All those games you mentioned are great games, I completely agree. It's not like the industry is completely changing, it's more like a certain business or 2 just love the DLC and micro transactions that actually complete the game. Even with these
thoughts I'm part of the problem, I bought Battlefront though it was heavily discounted. It's not bad, it's just very minimal in content, more than destiny.
