How did gaming get so bad ?

I haven't played either game so I don't know how 'content light' the 2015 game is compared to the 2005 game, but what I do know is the price upon release is pretty much the same and the production costs for the 2015 version must have been astronomical compared
to 2005!!!

Gamers have to get real and realise they are paying the same price for brand new games now as they were 10 or 20 years ago, maybe even cheaper if you shop around. We are playing better looking, better sounding games and we play them on better broadband.
Yet no real inflation with regards to the games price. You can't have your cake and eat it!

Heck, I paid £60 for SNES games (albeit on cartridge) over 20 years ago. £60!!!!!

I bought the complete destiny on one disc after a year for $70, it was worth it then.

 

Daft, I dont feel the game is bad ,because its not but even you got to admit the difference between on disk content is... alarming to say the least.

 

I am surprised that game prices have not risen over the years, the standard price has stayed relatively the same for a while and has not increased at an inflationary rate. The reason? Less content. As expenses increase (and they have over the last ten years)
the cost is usually passed on to the consumer, in this industry, they offer less with the original purchase, and milk out as much as possible with expansions.

 

It's become more of a consumer industry, gamers are not quite as common. I mean how does apple sell outdated unoriginal ideas at a premium? It's your average consumer who thought "planking" was once a thing and beards and tats are the best! Think what
you want but it's no different from that "Cool" Band becoming mainstream, that's where we are at.

 

Gamers fall into two groups, one that bemoans the state of the industry and cries foul and rip off every two minutes, and the other group who realise prices have remained pretty stable, buy titles enjoy them and get a buzz out of enjoying gaming. I know
which one I'm in....

the difference between a gamer and a consumer?? Or are you suggesting that unless you play 22 hours a day on COD your not a real gamer??

until I get the rest? I mean the topic is extremely easy to understand.

 

No sorry I still don't understand what your saying? You could argue that Witcher and Fallout aren't complete as they both have season passes, so what's your point?

Are you trying to convey that if you buy into the season pass MP map DLC model then you are a consumer and not a gamer?

Not that there is any difference between a consumer and a gamer that I can see, we all buy games and consoles, they aren't handed out free.

 

well since your post made it before mine than maybe it doesn't make sense. Read the 1st post on this thread and look at the game and what if offers, compare that to the 2 I mentioned. A business that puts their heart and soul into a good game is very different
to a business that hopes a brand alone can attract the same attention.

Games for consumers, the person that plays those "match the color" games on their phone or tablet and nothing else. The same person who will than buy the Latest game for their child because it's the latest game and no other reason. I actually work with 2
of these people that have no knowledge of the gaming world and just wish to own the latest crap.

Indeed we do, I kinda see where your coming from in relation to tablet and phone gaming, but I suspect the parents who play those but buy console games for the kids are directed by the kids as to what titles to buy. The average kid who is desperate for
the latest COD isn't going to be to cheerful if the parent presents them with the latest Mario.

 

In 1989 I paid $44.95us for ninja gaiden on nes & that game was made by like 10 people.

now games are made by 100? people look at the credits to the last of us yikes.

so i see where devs and publishers need more money but this sneaky season pass/on disc dlc/16gb day 1 update/300 microtransaction

crap is getting old quick.

 

I agree that some companies practices in regard to DLC and MT's are not to be supported. But the OP's statement of "When did gaming get this bad" is way of beam in my view. You can either support or ignore those practices depending on how desperate
you are to play. And there are plenty of titles that don't go down this route, two great examples by Red Eye above. Ive been gaming all year on great titles that haven't tried to sell me DLC or MT's from the start, and the games have been massive for the
most part and thoroughly enjoyable. I just don't buy into the OP's doom and gloom scenario.
