How can I stop my xbox 360 from Freezing up?

I have a 250GB xbox 360 E and I've always had it put Horizontally and on a desk since I bought it 2 years ago.However, my xbox sometimes runs really slow and at random times it freezes up,ton the other hand,it's not the first time it freezes up. In fact,
it's froozen up before,whereas I don't know what the problem is. when it freezes up,I don't receive an error message.it just freezes up and stops responding and won't let me go to the dashboard,either.Whenever it happens, I always have to turn it off and on
in order to continue playing

as I mentioned earlier,it only happens at random times.

Do you think it may be a Hardware or software issue?

Please guys I need your help,any opinion or advice will be really appreciated.

Should I buy a new one?

my xbox 360 has been freezing on and off also my fan is very loud where every one can hear my 360 though my mic how can you fix this

 

not really sure if it has to do with the xbox storage because my xbox has only 51.8GB free of 250GB.

 

what I'm trying to say is that the screen freezes up at random times and stops responding.

 

This is just normally caused by games or the dashboard/software, its pushing the 360's hardware to its maximum capability and tends to randomly freeze it. Just cause and effect of software and hardware working in tandem
