How can I set my xbox one is connected with 5 ghz wifi?

It works fine on 5 GHz.

My phone's hotspot just isn't a good router.

But I still don't understand how or why my Xbox wouldn't connect to my 2.4 GHz wifi.

Just go in your router settings and change the SSID for the 5GHz band

Some routers use the same SSID for both bands by default but you can usually change the name for each so you can tell them apart.

So this is EXACTLY the issue I'm having. Just bought a Cisco/Linksys E4200 for the sole purpose of using the 2.4 Ghz Wifi network for most of my home network needs and using the 5 Ghz network exclusively for streaming Media Center to the Xbox. Bought a new
black Wifi N dongle for my Xbox 360 Elite, but no luck. I can connect to the 2.4 Ghz network, but get network congestion issues and such-- It sees the 5 Ghz network, but won't connect. I've returned the xbox dongle and replaced it with another to no avail.
Any ideas? Sounds like a well known problem here-- but didn't ever see a resolution! If its just an issue with the E4200, I may have to return it and get something else. Recommendations? How do I fix this?

Sorry about that issue but wifi disconnection are 99,99999 % of the time due to a conflict with another devices.

If your router can provide 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz as wifi signal, try both and stay with the best one.

in the router you will have 2.4 ghz channel and 5 ghz channel, you need to make sure your xbox and laptop are connected to the same one, by default they are named the same in the router and your router connects devices to the most convenient, renaming the
5 ghz will give you the choice which to choose when searching a wifi to connect to.

5 ghz provides faster data rates at a shorter distance, 2.4 ghz offers coverage for further distances, but may perform at slower speeds.
