How can I reset my child’s Microsoft login password? It’s not working!

Microsoft - all I want is to reset my child's password so they can login and use Minecraft!

I've attempted reset password a number of times for him.

I do not have the extra layers of information because they simply don’t exist….He’s never sent an email, no Xbox devices (he uses kindle) and the entire point is I don’t remember the previous password!!!

I do not want my son’s email address laying dormant and being susceptible to identity theft.

He wants his existing gamertag and email address.

    Can you tell me:

    A) How to reset the password without the extra layers of information ‘required’ as they simply do not exist?

Boy am i regretting not writing it down! This is so stressful and absolutely awful on Microsoft's part, I’m all for security measures but not completely blocking recovery.

    :)

How can I reset my child’s Microsoft login password? It’s not working!

    Hello VCW83,

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Community. My name is Lumie and I'm happy to help.

I'm sorry you're experiencing this problem. I understand how important recovering your account is to you. Please keep in mind, this is a user forum, we are not Microsoft agents.

Important: The account recovery form can only be used if two-step verification isn't turned on.

If you did not have 2FA active on the account, you will need to try the Account Recovery Form again: [https://account.live.com/acsr]

Detailed steps on how to use the Account Recovery Form can be found here: [https://support.microsoft.com/office/b19c02d1-a782-dee6-93c3-dc8113b20c42]

Microsoft takes account security very seriously, that's why Account Recovery is an automated process with no human influence. If you don't have the correct information, you may not be able to get through account verification using the Recovery Form.

The Account Recovery Form requires adequate information to prove that you are the owner of the account. The Account Recovery Process can be a time consuming process, but providing as much info as possible from the start of the process will increase the possibility of being verified by the automated process. You'll need to keep trying until you're verified by Microsoft.

Remember to use a familiar device from which you've frequently accessed your Microsoft account, as well as a familiar location. Microsoft will review your responses and respond within 24 hours. If you are verified, instructions on how to log back into your account will be sent to you, and if you are not verified, you will need to submit the Account Recovery form again. You can do this up to 2 times every 24 hours.

It's important to note that Microsoft Support will not be able to grant you access to your account, you will be sent back to the Account Recovery pages that have been linked above.

If your Microsoft account recovery request was not granted or was unsuccessful, please click the attached link for more information: [https://support.microsoft.com/office/dc56c3e3-dff0-4ed5-8edb-60290eea6b53]

While it might not be the outcome you are looking for, if you’re unsuccessful in recovering your account, then you will need to create a new Microsoft account. You can do that by clicking this link: [https://signup.live.com/]

Let me know if you need more help.

    Regards,
    Lumie

cannot sign into the microsoft login page, or minecraft.net

I have not tried resetting my password as there is nothing wrong with my login details. It simply wont accept even my email when i try to login. I CAN access microsoft store, microsoft windows account, xbox app, minecraft launcher with microsoft login. These work fine.

Minecraft.net and microsoft login website do not even accept even my email, as it refreshes the page when i click next.

I can sign into microsoft store app on windows PC. However, it does not require a password it requires windows PIN number. Microsoft store uses microsoft account settings to login, and PIN to verify user.

How can I login with my gmail account if I don't have the password. I attempted a password recovery, and it's going to another email it seems, because I did not receive a reset password email.

I think someone else is using my gmail as their login?

Parent Microsoft Account Invalid & Live signup is currently unavailable?

Well, there are really two possibilities that I can see...

    1) You may simply need to update the secruity proofs online at
    http://www.account.live.com
. Try to login using their Microsoft Account e-mail and password on the website, once everything is updated you should be able to login. If you can't remember the password, or the password is incorrect, you need to to attempt
to do the password reset process. If you cannot provide the required info for the password reset, or the password reset does not work you may need to fill out an account recovery form at
www.account.live.com/acsr. If you do have to fill out the account recovery form it can take up to 24 hours for a response so please be patient.

    2) The other possibility is that your parents or you, yourself somehow closed their Microsoft Account out completely... in which case, it is not recoverable. You would have to make a new account and start all over. Sometimes kids try to close their parent's
Microsoft Accounts thinking that it will remove the restrictions on their own accounts... this is incorrect. Closing a parent account will also close out all associated child accounts. The proper way to "promote" a child account to an adult account would
be to wait until the legal age required and follow the child account promotion process outlined here:

    support.xbox.com/.../promote-child-account

    Good Luck!
