    i cannot figure out how to leave my microsoft family on the xbox and still have my xbox live account work. The age on the account is over 18.

    It's possible that the account belongs to one of your parents, but the gamertag is just one you don't recognize. They may have gotten a forced name change, etc. Have them try to sign in and see what happens. You can also try to promote your child to adult

    Their account signs in perfectly fine on xbox one but it shows it as his own gamertag not the one that's listed in my account. And I or my parents can't promote my account to adult status because the person that has control of my parental settings we don't
    know the email or password for it to be changed.
