How can i hear my game through headphones?

So i see on streams some people are using just regular old headphones to hear game sound. I would like to do this but my TV doesnt have a 3.5mm jack for headphones. I know with the Xbox 360 there was an RCA adapter for this but idk how i would be able to
do this with hdmi because its only one cable. Is there any way i can hear my Xbox one audio through headphones without having to buy another new expensive headset?

Player voices coming through tv

while I am playing overwatch I can hear players through my tv when I only want to hear them through my headset. How do I make it so people's voices only play through my headset.

 

I can hear through my headset, but no one can hear me.

The headset having the issue is the Xbox One default headset. I bought a new one from gamestop today thinking my headset was broken, but the new headset has the exact same problem. I can talk in party chat and game chat using my kinect, so privacy settings
aren't the issue. Also, if I turn the kinect off and only use the headset it still has the same issue. Both mics are clearly receiving power because the slash in the mute button will light up when I press it. Both mics are also in excellent condition. Please
help, I have to be unreasonably close to the kinect for it to pick my voice up at a comfortable volume. My back and neck are hurting from leaning forward.

 

The only way you can do this as far as I am aware is:

a) Via headphone jack on your TV, or

b) Use headphones that support optical in (Toslink) - which some gaming headphones do (but standard music headphones don't).

I'm assuming you don't have an AV Amp between your X1 and TV - because if you did then you could have used the headphone out on the amp.

 

it also depend on the headphone set, mine have the 2 audio component adapters, one options if to by a HDMI to 5 component cable then plus the headset into the audio ports as you did with the 360, but I think that only supports 720 and not 1080, so at the
moment its one trade off for another.

Other options for the above, involve 3.5m jack to/from component adapters

lol, this is gunna depend on what you want, in the UK there is a shop called maplins which sell a good range of cables, the people in there would recommend something.

One option would be, get the cable in the link about, then get the cable in the link below, put the HDMI in the XO, the video in the tv, the sound in the link below and the headset in the other end of the link below:

I am not going to say this will end up with high quality sound, but it should work to some degree.

 

Just get an old turtle beach x41 and plug your headphones into the sending unit. And if u r lucky and have little to interfere w the x41 wireless signal you will get great use of the surround sound headphones. You can buy the senders cheap on ebay from
those that broke the headphones.
