How can i get my xbox companion app to let me type stuff while i'm on my xbox like it would...

Currently having the same issue after going through hours of trying to figure out how to open the NAT type on both PC and xbox, it finally lets me fully connect to the party but will not let me hear anything and my friends cannot hear me. my mic shows
that is working, I have tried both xbox (beta) app, console companion app and game bar. my mic says it is talking, all input and output device setting are correct. Im at a loss

Did you ever get the codes? I'm in a similar situation except I'm at college and don't have my Xbox with me so as of now I only have access to the Windows Xbox Companion app and I have yet to receive the codes. I'll be home by the 14th so I'll update if
they show up on my Xbox but not on my Xbox Companion app, which I suppose would mean that they won't actually message you the codes and you do in fact need an Xbox.

Can somebody explain to me step by step, how to find my user ID? The only app I have right now is Xbox Console Companion; if that helps. Or you could type my user ID as the answer, that will save a lot of time for me.

So I have my Xbox One connected to one of the companion boxes and it took me a while to get mine to work. I ended up entering the info for my DVR. (Brand=Arris and Model=MX011ANM). After I did that, my Xbox One would change channels on my X1 companion
box through my Xbox One. I'm still not sure how to watch recorded shows from my existing DVR through the Xbox One. My X1 menu bar does not show up on my screen, so I can't watch my recorded shows.

1) Ok, perhaps I'll just try it. For now I have the Xbox One in the living room. We want to remodel our home anyway, so perhaps I can take that in account

2) I will try another cable. The Surface Pro did find the controller and set it up nice and all. However, I never disconnected the controller from the Xbox One... with which it is wirelessly connected.

3) I have a companion app on my phone and on my Surface Pro. On the iPhone that my brother has, he was able to type in stuff on the companion app. I only see some Xbox controller "keys". Would it be possible to set those as a remote to assign a profile to?
Or will that only be possible with a physical controller?
